NEW LEAK: Soul Company & Girl Power have leaked

Two Prince & Sheila E. tracks from the upcoming Eye boot have leaked: the instrumental Girl Power and Soul Power with Sheila on vocals. Neither of them are exactly mindblowing, but it's nice to listen to Prince fiddling around on bass and guitar on Girl Power.

I've had the vocal Girl Power for what seems like forever, but I hadn't heard the instrumental before.

I never liked "Girl Power"
But this instrumental-version is a (groove)-bomb!
I just enjoy listening to the bass-playing of this version (without being distracted by vocals that don't touch me). smile

I disagree. 1988 gave us the lovesexy album,God is alive, the line, still would stand all time.Theres plenty of Melody in those

It was released in 88 but those were probably recorded in 87ish. I've never been a fan of the production or feel of Lovesexy myself.

I think she was referring to the songs that he offered her."Girl Power" is one of the tunes.Another song is called "3 Nigs Watching A Kung Fu Movie".I haven't heard it but if you were Sheila, would you want a song with that title on your album?
lol

Soul Company was reportedly recorded with Prince on backing vocals and Eric Leeds added sax to it on 19 November 1988 - the day after the track was recorded. I hear neither Prince nor Eric on this version. It's probably a later mix of the song to go on her fourth album - just like Girl Power got edited for inclusion on the album. confused

Maybe Girl Power (Instrumental) is Prince's basic recording before Sheila E. did vocal and percussion overdubs? smile

But a nice couple of tracks. I like them. smile

Well Lovesexy was done in like 3-4weeks, but she said later music recorded in the 1988/89 period lacked a lot of melody and something else.
.
God is Alive I like, but it is missing something,
She isn't saying every song, but a LOT of it is, a lot of it had that demo feel to it.

Still Would Stand All Time is a beautiful song vocally, but the music does nothing for me

And I like 'stripped down' songs, Forever In My Life for example,

I enjoy the Line because of it being an outtake from 1988, but it doesn't go anywhere. I do prefer the more wildly musical version, but at times it seems too much. The Line - The Future similar sound/feel/vibe but I think it works best on the Future.

Very nice on both accounts.

I think Sheila's 1989 album would have done great. The vocal version is astounding and so damn funky.

I wonder who would have been her band.
Would she have gotten Eddie M back and Miko and Levi...

the 1989 period was about to change the scene big time again.
I remember something Sheila E said about trying to get Prince to not split the band up

Madhouse couldn't really contain and promote itself as a seperate protege

Boni was done, Cat was done,
