“Prince died because of keeping up his façade.” Wendy Melvoin.

May I ask for your help to clarify this statement please? Do you have reasons to believe he would not have been truthful? Were there any past events leading you to believe he would not have been truthful in his memoir? [Edited 7/7/17 17:28pm]

and the moral of the story is: You can't force ANYONE to be something they don't want to become!

They do not believe that he had a plan for his music with these contracts and his LLC.

Because other people know best.

I am so amazed at how many people do not believe Prince himself. This reality is a shocking to me.

Prnce has a hx of bullshitting with the truth is why. And thats not to dismiss the others and THEIR pov which should not be considered the absolute gospel truth either.

It's unfair to assume it would have been the ol'regular Prince speaking.

As other have rightfully stated, the last years saw Prince opening up, free at last from all the mystery aura and poses: he simply did not need them anymore. Of course he could not really part himself from his acquired living legend status, but his public appearances (TV series episodes, music awards, TV interviews) showed a truly calm and serene Prince, maybe for the first time, or rather like never before.

I love Wendy, but her statement is very questionable to say the least (I think it's utter bullshit). The façade was gone by then. But it doesn't mean modesty of feelings left the building that was Prince's complex mind and quasi-autistic view on the outer world and his relation to it. You can't operate with an artistic mind 24/7 and expect to have a standard, normal behaviour.

Maybe it's precisely when he managed to strip off the façade, that regrets for all this time spent playing the diva kicked in, and hard. This explains the pervasive introspective feeling going on in AOA, which was unprecedented. Add Denise departure to it, an big emtpy building to live in, physical pain and decay in place of the full control of the body that once was, and you have a situation where dark, very lonely moments may have happened.

Why not? I would be interested on his point of view. People can either accept what he wrote or they can reject it. It is funny to me that people think Prince would not be "thuthful" but are quick to believe Mayte, Wendy, or whoever about his life. It is stange they don't want to beileve Prince but are quick to believe others. I am glad he was writing a memoir. When you don't tell your story others tell your story for you. He did not talk much about alot of things that happen to him in his life for years and I feel so people in his camp take advantage of that.

I feel he would have given us an "artistic rendering" of his life in writing. He was mainly shy and reticent with the public in real life for obvious reasons--and why mess with that track record--I understand that! The people he dealt with know the stuff that happened, and that is all in reality that truly matters. As far as such knowledge, I simply enjoy the tangible things that he left for the rest of us--his song lyrics for what they are worth--they've been inspirational, entertaining, enlighting and hilarious all of which is allright for me! He was an enigma and that sexy guy I wanted to be. It was cool to see a bit more of the normal side of the man looking to engage the public emerge for a while, too. He was on further missions with his religious faith and his push for artists' empowerment that I especially admired. My only vain wish will be that he could have gotten those addictive drugs out of his system to allow himself more time to share his gifts and inspirations.

I would buy it I didn't buy Mayte's book for reasons some people have already explained. Whether Prince was candid about the many facets of his life or took poetic license to explain his life with metaphors and cryptic messages, it still represents his legacy and the final word on his life from the subject all these exploitative books and programs on Reelz tv inspire.

Because there are people who do not want to hear or know what he really thought. They belive his ex-wives, groupies, jump-off, associates, band mates and relavtives know his thoughts. They do not believe Prince was even in agreement with contract he actually signed and received payment from.

yeahthat It never ceases to amaze me how much of that has gone on since Prince's death. Even fans have discounted words straight out of his mouth. If Prince's memoir (whatever he did complete) is ever published, I would go with whatever was in there. This, EVEN if it turned not to match my observations or preconceived ideas of what I believe Prince felt or thought about persons, ideas, or anything.

Excellent insight and agree completely! Prince was not the same in the time leading up to his death. He was more candid with his thoughts and emotions.

I think of The Breakdown and how that song really hits a nerve about past regrets.

I want the pages that he wrote for the memoir. Unedited, but they can include some unreleased photos with it.

Believe others thoughts about what he thought but not his own thoughts? Because others always know you, your emotions, regrets, loves, dislikes, turmoils, better than you. And, of course you can always count on others to be truthful about everything. 😑

This is all true but may have had no bearing on his autobio if he had written it. We still don't know for sure if he was terminally ill or knew something was up or whatever. It's a nice thought that he would have just opened up and been honest and not worried about settling grudges or anything.

But only 50 pages, he got up to when he was a teenager?
And I can't trust it won't be 'added' on too.
