I´d love to see a Lovesexy deluxe box with Rotterdam and/or Dortmund shows, beautiful pictures and all possible extra materials from that era... Is it asking too much?

Certainly a fantastic live period - killer aftershows

I don't want any "deluxe" albums. I don't have Purple Rain Deluxe yet and the only reason I'll buy it in the near future is the CD of outtakes. That's what I want. The Vault vols. I, II, III etc etc...

It needs to be the "1999" album era and the unreleased tracks from that era. That's when Prince was at his very best ever.

Andy is a four letter word.

.

I'm hoping they get their shit worked out fast... do the deluxe versions for the general public and then add fan releases Vault I, II, etc. Much like what they are doing with Elvis's stuff still.

.

Basically, do both. Make money on his legacy and also feed the fans (even at extortionate prices like $50 per CD (set))

It's not that difficult and can be done with free tools.

First step: rip the cd to a lossless format. I use a Mac, and I use XLD, but it is not the easiest tool (but not difficult either, with plenty of how-to's out there) For windows, I used to use exactaudiocopy, which I think is still updated. Most important part is to rip to lossless. Flac, apple lossless or even plain wave is the way to go. It needs to be lossless because you will compress later. If you re-compress an already compressed file the quality goes down fast. (remember taping over a cassette from a friend?)

.

Second step: open the files in an audio editor. Audacity is a free option for all operating systems. Once you see the waveform, just play it. Hear how loud it sounds. Under the menu option "Effect", choose "Normalize". Just use the defaults and say ok. Play the music again. It will be louder. Success!

.

Third step: save the file as an MP3. In the "File" menu, choose "Export Audio". Under "File Type", choose MP3. Change setting to suit your needs. The default might be fine, I like 320 stereo constant bit rate, but maybe you have another preference.

.

Fourth step: copy the mp3 file to your phone!

.

Once you've done that, you can start experimenting with other effects, like the compressor. Soon, you'll be as good as Josh Welton! razz

Awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to lay that out for me! I seriously appreciate it. Technological experimentation is a frightening prospect lol but on the journey to that rarified plateau of ability of Joshua Welton...I will do what it takes lol. Thanks again and all the best!

The Sign o the Times meets Crystal Ball and Dream Factory experience. At least 4 cds including the album remastered and loud (Adore in SURROUND sound), and 2 CDs of all the out takes for Camille, Crystal Ball, Dream Factory, The Dawn and Coco Boys, along with early unreleased versions of SOTT tracks like Strange Relationship (December 1985 with sitars).

.

Included also a DVD of SOTT movie and at least 2 other shows (Madhouse, Its a hard life with Wally and Greg) and all sorts of Oddities.

.

Pipe Dream, but a nice one.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Silly question, but with the mess the estate is in, can anyone actually release anything at the moment? If so, who could release something? Warner? The estate as an independent release? Some cheeky engineer? Or are we going to depend on bootleggers for a while?

This will be years away. Probably in 2020 so WB can get another payday and it will most likely be another hits with a disk of unreleased tracks. The days of regular releases are over.

unfortunately i think it is clear the record industry has zero love for prince as he humiliated them .. wb is done with prince except maybe suing the estate out of spite .. i could see that happen

what should happen is at least a 4 disk set of out takes ala join the dots

and a bootleg concert series ala dylan, the dead, or even pearl jam phish zep

i am pretty sure the corporate world wants to destroy prince legacy .. it will have to carry on via the fans if it all

I Agree...It's easy to see. Just like this UMG deal. They had zero interest in anything, but money from the hits flowing in yearly. They probably had zero plans to actually do something new.

Why put them together? The Black Album is his last piece of absolute genius and Lovesexy is his first fall from grace and the start of him only releasing partially satisfying albums. I don't think it does either album much good to combine them. If anything, give them both a deluxe treatment, but separate.

Lovesexy is a pop-funk masterpiece, very succesful in Europe, number 1 in the UK and sold very well in other EU countries as well..

It was some (strange) americans, that could not handle the sexxy cover art, and could not handle the kind of lovely but still "complex" sound.. but it's a 10/10 album, I love the sound deeply, a Prince-album top-5 behind PR, SOTT, 1999, nd maybe Parade....

heart Lovesexy. music

I would not combine Lovesexy with The Black Album, though... you are right in that one, imho.. smile

The sexxy cover art caused Walmart, the nation's biggest retailer, to refuse to stock the album.

Black is the new Black, his final album

This before anything else, so that we're not too far from its conception, this was where and what the heart was at. And P&M shows close behind. Remasters of other stuff can wait - he was about the present, the now - and this is as close as we can get to it at this point. I feel like crying because I'm scared we won't see his final album for some time yet.

This sounds like a great idea, but when you are blowing a project out to multiple discs of songs of dubious association and various out takes, you would isolating the market. Honesty 10 discs of SOTT or 1999 out takes would be costing in the 3 figures and realistically would sell a few hundred copies tops. Plus the fans they are trying to reach would complain and get all nerdy about mixes and start showing those graph things again.

.

Warners PG have been quite wise with the two formats for PR deluxe, and no doubt will compare sales of the both and see which format is working more. Also whether PR Deluxe reached more casual fans wanting the 2cd set or the hardcore buying the expanded set. The approach may be flawed as Disc 2 the most wanted appeared on both editions.

.

Also I think one a year at most, as the catalogue can only last so long before we are getting half finished ideas from 1999 with some nameless bimbo rapping on them.

I'm really hoping for a SOTT remaster. I don't think 1999 really needs a remaster, and there are so many outtakes from the SOTT period (I need Rebirth Of The Flesh).

The only problem with that is that we already have so many outtakes from that era that it would be very difficult to release new stuff we don't already know. Still SOTT sounds terrible, so it could do with a remaster...
