And that he requested and second appearance on Funkeberry's podcast just to address this issue. I follow him on social media and he seems very protective of Prince and his legacy. He was one of the last musicians to be working with Prince so he was definitely around Prince more than others towards the end of his life. Paisley Park is in your heart

Many who knew him for years are saying it was shocking to them. I suspect once again that something was causing him pain. I say give it time people who know what was going on will speak up. One of the other horn players Marcus said it, a guy named Mr. Blby who claims he was a drum tech for 3EG, La La who was in that honey collective, Micheal B. Nelson and some people who were not in his band but who were around in the later years of his life.
The fact that Kim Berry is saying this is very interesting.

Maybe all she means is that he had pain issues and took some bad pills on accident. She might just be saying that folks shouldn't label him as a drug addict because of that.

Exactly. You can rely on and overdose on painkillers without being an addict. Accidents happen.

The media have blown it all out of proportion as they do cos it sells.Prince died and the media went to town with the story, making him out to be a drug addict scoring smack off a street corner, nothing is farther from the truth. Kim is sticking up for Prince cos dead men cant speak up. I think his death was accidental and one of the greatest tragedies for me personally. I havnt cried yet, dont think its hit me totally. its a good post but im not going to read into too much.

Pain. I know the idea that he could have been in real pain is hard for some people to handle but he was a human being and sometimes as humans we can have health issues.
This women worked for him for 29 years right up until a few months before he passed away and she is not the first person to imply that he was not an addict and that there is more to the story.
We will find out one day what was going on but I have no doubt that she knows what she is talking about and yes a person could die from an overdose and not have been some life long dope fiend.

If you are addicted to pills you are a drug addict. If it makes people feel better to think that getting pills through friends or other avenues is somehow not the same as obtaining smack on the street then fine. Denial can be deadly though.

Plus you can have a medical reason for starting taking opioids (even being prescribed them by a doctor) and still become addicted. Having a medical condition and becoming addicted are not mutually exclusive.

Do we have official confirmation that he was addicted? Outside of what was in search warrants and media reports where people drew their own conclusions? I'm not trying to be obtuse or dense here but while it is true that someone can start out using painkillers to treat chronic pain and become addicted I would argue it's also true that just because someone overdoses doesn't mean they were an addict. Having a medical condition and becoming addicted are not mutually exclusive. Would anyone who overdoses on painkillers be considered an addict? I would be curious to know how the ME determined it was an accidental overdose. Especially if the leaks of the toxicology report are accurate. What is their criteria for calling something accidental? I just thought Kim's post was interesting because not a lot of associates of his have not gone there, have not touched the drug subject. Adrian Crutchfield is really the only one that has been adamant that Prince wasn't an addict. I don't know what he's basing that on other than the time they spent together and Prince's state of mind and demeanor during that time. Maybe there are signs that (in his mind) are associated with addicts and he didn't see those signs on Prince? If I remember that Funkenberry podcast he was very clear that he was just stating his opinion. [Edited 6/8/17 7:03am] Paisley Park is in your heart

Oh I defintiely don't think you need to be addicted to overdose. - But there's plenty of valid and persuasive reasons to think Prince WAS struggling with addiction (which have all been discussed a few times here ) - I agree with you that it sounds like a few associates feel strongly that they didn't see any behavior they would associate with addiction, and I have no doubt that it's true that they didn't witness that.

[Edited 6/8/17 7:13am] Yeah I don't want to rehash all that. π Just want to be clear that we don't have any official statement from anyone confirming an addiction. Paisley Park is in your heart

She is saying he was not a drug addict. People need to stop getting in their feelings about drug addiction.
