I have that too, and indeed its awesome/badass. That version of the live Maggot Brain is worth it alone. Trickology hipped me to it back in the day.

Yes they are...lmao! The only difference is Tina is the Vocalist. I guess if you wanna get Technical David isn't in the group, but that is accomplished by him going backstage at shows. Have you not scene Stop Making Sense. Either Way Genius of Love is The Tom Tom Club.

.

NO THEY ARE NOT. Sheesh, TTC is 2 people, half of TH. And for a loooong time Tina and Chris haven't been best buddies with David.

.

BTW the word is "seen" not "scene", and even though they performed a TTC song during that concert it doesn't mean TH = TTC.

it must be hard for two people to play guitar, bass, drums, & keys in a live setting. Autocorrect failure aside...Genius of Love is Tom Tom Club like I said.

Oops...Autocorrect failure. BTW, It's long...not loooong. 🤣. It must be really hard for 2 People to play everything in a live setting. Like I said originally...GENIUS OF LOVE IS TTC! Cap lock off, I feel 12 now.

Dude, they're fraternal twins. Mash-ups of the two show just how similar they are, indeed.

I'm going from memory.

I will get the studio later this week and create both.

I don't even think they u the same notes or keys.

I'll see soon enough.

Nope!

Genius of Love by the Tom Tom Club sounds like it was massively ripped off by Mariah Carey in her song 'Fantasy'.

As to influencing Erotic City, I doubt it. Prince is on record at George Clinton's induction in the RAR Hall of Fame, stating that 'Knee Deep' inspired Erotic City, in fact he said he heard people singing it in unison, went home and recorded 'Erotic City'.

He says it here, check it out from 01:30: https://www.youtube.com/w...bS2dIADcsg

^ Oh right Bart, so even if the horses' mouth says it you still deny it...JEEZ...you are out of touch!

So the whole way of book / academic research needs to change now because we can't believe what actual original sources who did the song say?!

As to Mariah's song, that is more than just sampling, that is bascially stealing the whole tune, even if it was with their permission!!! However, she probably should have made the credit more obvious as most people think this was hers!

Listen to it you can tell it's true.

Honestly you need to stop hating, I sometimes blame people like you for putting P in the grave (listen to the song Breakdown).

Btw i find it amusing your name is Van Hemelen which in your native tongue means 'from Heaven' lol.

For many fans i think you'd be better off called Bart Van Hell!

Prince could have bullshitted being inspired by Parliament when he wrote "Erotic City," but then you'd have to overlook the pitch-adjusted vocals and the "fuck/funk" confusion, which are major George Clinton-isms. If the story is bullshit, why wouldn't Prince just mention any of the other songs in his catalogue that show a P-Funk influence (ie. "Strange Relationship," "La La La Hee Hee Hee," "Scarlet Pussy," "Pussy Control," "Housequake," etc.)? The whole Lovesexy/Spookyelectric dichotomy is influenced by "Starchild/Sir Nose," the Camille character has similarities to Sir Nose as well (the pitch adjusted alter ego).

I always thought the keyboard sound on "Space" was inspired by Mariah's - er - borrowing "Genius of Love" wholesale on "Fantasy," but "Space" was released a year earlier. Yet people accuse Prince of "following the trends" in the 1990s.

seems some could use some brushing up on their comprehension of the words 'inspire' and 'influence'...

tom tom club and talking heads are not the same band.

prince does not imply in his rnrhof induction of george clinton that he wanted to sound like the 'knee deep' performance, only that he was inspired to write 'erotic city' after witnessing it...what he says has nothing to do with what might have influenced the sound he wanted to achieve

wtf-ever....we've got all the various parts and musicians and songs. just dig it all. who cares?

Genius of Love is one of the most sampled songs of all time. If the Mariah song is your introduction to it the problem is with you.

As for Erotic City sounding like it... eh...wash your ears maybe?

A further review, I can see how folks say that EC was patterned after White Horse.

I played both bass lines in their original Key.

White Horse: A1, A1, E1, G1, A1, A1, E1, C1

EC: G#2, F#2, F#2,D#2........

If you play White Horse in EC key you get: G#2, G#2, D#2, B2, G#2, G#2, F#2

In other words, EC is White Horse in a different key played slightly diferent but basically the same notes only sharp.

I dunno about that, they sound pretty similar to me. "The same key" and "played different" are pretty strange categories, one is super strict and the other super vague

Genius of Love has a lot in common with the Paisley Park instrumental that floated around last year.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/
