First Ave 8/3/1983 Video is real and being shopped

Link

In one of his first dealings as an advisor to the Prince estate, Spotify executive Troy Carter is helping negotiate a deal that could give one major streaming service exclusive rights to one of the late pop star’s unreleased concert films as well as rights to make a documentary about the film, sources tell Billboard.

Thanks! That's the confirmation I was looking for.

So it seems the deal actually has nothing to do with Warner Bros? Which explains why it isn't on PR Deluxe.

And the story about them "not finishing it on time" was bogus.

It's a shame, though, that we're getting lower-generation, well-connected collector-sourced soundboard audio (still a major improvement over what mere mortals have for either the rehearsals or show itself), synchronized over a higher-generation copy of the video. Surely the original 24-track tapes were retained in the Vault, and haven't rotted away? If we get anything at all in the foreseeable future, that is.

"First Ave 8/3/1983 DVD" - is this wishful thinking, or have they confirmed a DVD will be coming out eventually? I suspect it is way too early to even consider the possibility of a physical release.

Well...we know the video is real (many of us have it). The question is whether it will be in quality that is sufficiently improved to make it worthwhile.

Ah...so this is why the video wasn't included on PR deluxe!

They wanted to package it separately and make more money off of it this way.

Hopefully, they'll put it on DVD for sale or at least on Amazon video!

This was the very first bootleg I was ever given; way back in '84 on VHS.

What a shambles, stuff potentially coming out from all sorts of places. Anyway, this is bullshit. Streaming services? Useless. No thanks. Needs to be DVD/or and blu-ray.

People still buy DVDs?

I'm selfishly hoping Apple Music as I'm a subscriber. Also if it goes to Apple it's possible it would be available for purchase on iTunes. Does Spotify have a store where you can purchase media or is it streaming only?

Exactly - Apple has platforms for both audio and video.

Could it end up on Netflix? That seems to be he way to go nowadays, isn't it? Anyway, I hope the sound is perfect so that I can rip it...

Netflix streams in UHD, so that might not be too bad actually.

UHD? It was recorded on two even older than 1983 (journalist-grade) BetaMax camcorders, probably by a locally booked company that does commencements and weddings, and those original tape elements may very well have been lost, leaving us with a second or lower generation VHS copy neglected for three decades.

So, basically, exclusive streaming rights for a fixed period (a year at the most, if even that) and then sold as a physical product.

Right? Have these people touting UHD or BlueRay seen the current versions of this video? I'll be satisfied if they can just get rid of the scrambled bits here and there.

I think you misunderstood; Netflix streams in UHD so no matter what the quality of rhe show is in/gets remastered into it'll look it's best on Netflix and other platforms that stream in UHD
