Prince on the radio....rare or often?

Right now while cruizin thru the forums I coincindently was listening to the radio at work (HOT92) in Cali and a guy called up saying he never hears enuff Prince on the radio...so they played DMSR dor him...how often do you still hear P on your local station in your part of the world and is it usually old school or a song of his that you aren't used to hearing on the air waves?

I've only heard him played on the local 80s station, and it's always the same old standards - Kiss, PR tunes, 1999, LRC, etc.

Otherwise I only listen to talk radio and obviously he won't show up on there. lol

The only time I listen to the radio is at work and they use to play Prince at least twice a day. Would vary from old school to more current (if you could call it that).
He calls me "Holi" cuz he says everyday w/ me is like a Holiday...

Over here in Alaska they haved played prince like one or twice on the radio. basicly on stations that play mostly 70's 80's and 90s. I heard Somebodys Somebody in the grocery store a couple of times... smile
And I also heard Little Red Corvette at like 2 or 3 am one time... smile... wink 8)

Here in St. Louis...all the time on all the "black" stations...especially 104.9 Majic...the DJ usually gives a drive time mix for 30 minutes...and he plays The Time...Madhouse...The Family...much love 2 the Lou!

lol i'm surprised at how little and how much typical p stuff they play on the radio here...thought they'd be bumpin some of the older, lesser-known gems as well. kmoj plays a bit more of his stuff (they played "head" once biggrin), but that ain't till like the wee hours of the mawnin, tho'.

You can't wait for things to happen. You got to do them yourself. To sit around and wait for some formulaic corporate radio station to play a Prince song is a BIG waste of time.

Either play the music from your Prince collection, listen to non-commercial radio on air and internet, or do a radio show yourself.

I never fail to hear Prince's OLD music on old school radio or an '80s station. I'm not a consistent listener to mainstream radio like I once was, and even with that fact I hear plenty of 80s Prince on the dreaded airwaves.

My local radio station played Prince twice last week , Diamonds and Pearls and Raspberry Beret. I have to admit I thought that something must have happened to Prince to have them play two of his songs its such a rarety

Much love yes Pochacco

There's a public radio station here in the Cities, KFAI. They have a setup like public access TV where they allow people to do their own radio shows, and they provide the radio engineers, studio, etc.

http://www.kfai.org/progr...ve_prj.htm

We Prince folx down here in Minni should get together and do a one night a week/biweekly/whatever, show there. We could pool our resources as far as music goes, and do a group thang..be on the air, take requests, talk about P, etc. It'd be kinda fun. biggrin

I don't really listen to the radio, but whenever it is on i never hear ANY prince songs, think i heard 'Kiss' and 'Corvette' once but thats it.

disbelief

And none of his videos are ever shown on t.v...except for 'TMBGITW' and maybe,MAYBE, 'Diamonds and Pearls'. I mean why don't they just do a 'Prince Day' on VH-1 or MTv or sumthin... rolleyes

There are many, many ways such a radio show would be interesting and informative, especially considering where we are geographically with Prince's association with Mpls. It would be fun and it would maybe help broaden people's awareness and perception of P as more than just "the Purple Rain" guy. Plus it would just be a blast and way to celebrate his music and one more way to get it out there on the airwaves.

Hmm. I think we should seriously consider this... smile

I've had a little bit of contact with someone at KFAI before about volunteering there. I'm gonna talk to them and see what they say about this idea.

Here in the NYC area they play Prince quite often, not as much as I'd like but more than my boyfriend can stand. KTU 103.5 plays let's go crazy almost every night when I'm on line in Dunkin Dounuts (Around 7:00pm) and WPLJ 95.5 plays kiss and delirious a lot. I even heard a remix of anotherloverholeinyourhead the other day on 107.5. I wish they would play the newer stuff though.

Oh I heard Diamonds and Pearls and the Greatest Romance ever sold at the mall the other day. I don't think that counts.
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

music

I was on my way to a dinner date a couple of weeks ago, a friday around 8pm, and 92.3 in Los Angeles (The Beat, I think, the one with Steve Harvey) played ADORE, and I freaked...I had never heard this song on the radio...It was not my car but I blasted the radio anyway...My date freaked out on me and I guess I "outed" myself as a Prince fan on my first date (I usually wait until I know the person quite well before I announce my love for Prince music..lol...).

Anyway, hearing the song put me in quite the romantic mood and I was able to sweet talk my date (who was quite hot) into sex on the first date (something I never do).

92.3 is cool, at night Kevin Slow Jammin James loves to play Adore...I've heard in on that station a few times...it causes me to pull over into a parking lot and do donuts and figure 8's in my car...wink
