Boy does this bring back memories. I read in an article way back when that P liked this movie, Idolmaker, so I searched for it and several years later found it at Blockbuster Video.

When I finally saw it alot became pretty clear to me about his performance and stuff. Lol

I was like eek

I have no proof, but the lead singer form Foxy had to be an influence on his Prince's 1979-1980 era performance and look.

What a wonderful thread. Did anyone already mention Mick Jagger/The Rolling Stones? I don't know how much of an influence it was on his music but he did go through his Andreas Vollenweider (sp?) phase in the late 80s.

Somebody needs to post a picture of 3-inch high heel boots. And black, guy-liner. cool

Thought it would be cool to hear all of these influences in one place. It’s not slowing things down too much, is it?

Not at all. biggrin I'm realizing that Prince was like a perfect storm. He came at a time when there was so richness in art and music to draw from. His incorporation of wide variety of influences and inspirations is what made him truly unique and brillant.

Yeah, so many diverse threads in his work. I listen to pretty much everything now, and it can all be traced back to discovering Prince as a 12/13 year old. My first love. smile

There should probably be some Blues represented here. Did he ever mention any specific blues artists as a particular influence? I'll just add a couple of favourites – they’re present in his music in any case.

I believe he got alot of his inspiration from Devo through Andre Cymone. AC was the huge New Wave nerd of them. And Ike Turner has been mentioned by Prince several times. We was an incredible songwriter and multi instrumentalist.
