I'm gonna have to say it's probably about even cuz I listened to P alot all the time, then life happened and I fell off for awhile.

After 4/21 I stopped for awhile and now I think I'm probably right at my original P listening levels, maybe slightly more at times and slightly less.

What subject matter are you thinkng of?

Things like The Breakdown, which I have always interpreted as being about the struggles in life and his relationship with God. And - obviously - Way Back Home.

i've always interpretted 'the breakdown' as addressing the hardcore fans, like sung directly to us...more like 'the analysis'. not necessarily a chipping away, but having an understanding through long time attention and appreciation. then, at the end, the closer we get to the actual breakdown...the end. i think his mortality was certainly on his mind when he made this record. god, it's a beast...

not only have i listened to less prince, i listen to less music generally...

i'd say a large portion of my prince consumption was based on anticipation of new material; and then listening to the new stuff until i had it figured out, then the old stuff as a juxtaposition against the new. and on and on...with that no longer an influence, it's kind of bittersweet to listen to the same stuff repeatedly.

i'm just recently starting to come out of the malaise of musical disinterest.

Yes, yes and yes. I've launched into Bowie as an escape. I'm trying to enjoy music again.

I could never listen to more Prince music now than I did as a teenager in the 80's. I physically don't have the luxury of time these days to go off in private to my bedroom and listen to Prince non stop as I did back then.... not to mention it would feel kinda weird to remove myself from my family like that and head off upstairs for hours on end. That might be expected when you're 15..... less so when you're almost 48, lol. I probably spend 4 or 5 hours a week now listening to music, whereas in my teens I would say you could multiply that by at least 10.
