The tape with the Madhouse songs Prince sent to Miles Davis

https://www.facebook.com/jazzguymatt/posts/10208883132653687

"Also, in early ’91, near the end of Miles’ life, Prince sent Miles 8 instrumental tracks to check out for possible consideration for what became the Doo-Bop project (see one of the cassettes below)."

This is the only photo I've ever seen of that tape.

Side A contains:

Penetration

Are U Legal Yet

Jailbait

A Girl and Her Puppy

Matt Pierson doesn't want to say what side B contains ("The other four songs were non-Madhouse songs. [...] I have the tape, but am not comfortable sharing the information, sorry.")

Also, he's talking about "cassettes" (plural), so this is only one of them.

Does anybody know more about those tapes?

Side A has been circulating for years. I'm sure side B were the rest of the Madhouse "24"

This would contradict what the owner of the tape said: "The other four songs were non-Madhouse songs."

.
Why isn't he "comfortable sharing the information" on what's on side B?
Is it Prince's original demos of Orgasm or what? smile

But seriously, I don't see the issue of sharing song titles without sharing the actual music.

You just rearrange those 4 titles a bit and you have a storyline.

i dont get what the big deal is as far as the names of the other songs...if there's even a real side B. to my knowledge, miles and his band only played THESE songs in his last year of life in Germany...so whatever was on side B, miles never used them. anyway, i like these songs. studio and the live miles versions.

It is a bit weird the cover doesnt say "Side A" and "Side B" and also doesnt have any of the side B songs printed.

He did however play Movie Star a fair bit, so if there is actually a side B i'd hazard a guess that this would be one of the songs, along with Sticky Wicked and possibly Funky.

Miles' last band was actually my favorite with kenny garrett on sax and foley on lead bass. and you are right. He played movie star late 87, and all of 88. in a tv interview in late 87 miles said prince gave them 2 songs; movie star and chocolate but unfortunately they only played movie star live. i'd love to hear what they did with chocolate if they rehearsed it.

http://prince.org/msg/7/343376

"24th March 1987. [...] Later that night, Prince hosted a dinner at his house for davis, Eric Leeds, Sheila E and Prince's father John L Nelson. Afterwards they spent time in Prince's home studio listening to tracks that Prince thought Davis might be interested in working on. There was no recording done during Davis' visit. Prince gave Davis a tape with three songs, Movie Star, Witness 4 The Prosecution, and Chocolate. Davis added Movie Star into his live show but nothing was done in the studio with any of the songs."

So "Movie Star" and others were given to Miles almost 4 years before the Madhouse 24 songs.

You're right, Revolution81: if there's something on side B (and there probably is, according to the owner of the tape), it's strange that nothing's printed on the back.

Songs 21-24 of Madhouse 24 is The Dopamine Rush Suite. So if there is a Side B, this is what is probably on it. Nothing special or secretive to hide or hold back since these songs have been circulating for years.

Again, this would contradict what the owner of the tape said: "The other four songs were non-Madhouse songs."

Also, Miles played the four first songs from Madhouse's "24" live (e.g. in Gütersloh, Germany, in 1991), but I've never heard they played "The Dopamine Rush Suite". Never. Not once. So this is consistent with this tape *not* containing the second half of the "24" album.
