I don't need Prince on any streaming service, all his songs are in my android device. When the power grid goes down, I will still be jammin till dawn.

I have some CDs, but don't have a computer. Only an iPhone and iPad. I also have a car to use right now with the ability to plug my iPhone into. So I think streaming is the best option for me right now. It's not a judgment; it's about what I can do to hear his music with what I have.

It's great that more people can now hear P for free. I just watched an interview with him and Kurt Loder where he said that one day he would give away all his music for free. Maybe he wouldn't have done the deal with Spotify or others(unless it was already in the works before he passed), but there it is; out of his own mouth...

Oh, and I'M on Tidal...I guess that makes me a "nobody".

A nobody who gets to hear MORE of his catalogue than peeps on Spotify or wherever so razz!

[Edited 2/14/17 1:58am]

And me as well! I've had Tidal for well over a year now, and have grown to love it. I reluctantly subscribed simply because of Prince, and I can honestly say now that I have discovered A LOT of new stuff through Tidal. Does it bug me that it's about $3-$4 more than Spotify and that I'm guilty of being a cheap bastard at times? Yeah. Does it seriously bug me I'm putting money into that soulless sell-out Jay-Z's pocket? Definitely. But you also have to remember: Since word has gotten out that all the other streaming services only have everything up to 1995 (as of 2/14/17), Tidal has almost everything after that. Tidal's collection is for the serious Prince fan. All the other services cater to the more casual. And hey, that's ok. The more people that discover him, the better. But let it be known that if Spotify acquires the rest of the albums it doesn't have yet of Prince's, I'm jumping ship immediately.

Get in your mouse, and get out of here!

Remember Prince saying about albums being important? This is part of the reason. Spotify, and the like, are killing the album. it's art, intended to be listened to, the way it was made. Most spotify users will never buy an album, let alone a Prince one, so I don't really see how it helps Prince music, these 'services' cheapen music.

I have about a dozen milk crates filled with vinyl records,a ton of CDs,and even some old cassettes, and guess what? I still pay $10 a month for a premium Spotify account.I enjoy it tremendously.I have access to all the music I could possibly want.Streaming allows me to discover new music, and to listen to albums that I'm curious about. For example,on Sunday night I decided to explore more of Curtis Mayfield's catalog.I have several of his albums already but I wanted to dig deeper and there his albums were,on Spotify for me to stream and enjoy. To those of you arguing that this is a bad thing,I just can't agree with you smile

Isn't there a free version of Spotify? I used to have it and I opted to get the premium version to skip the comercials, fast forward, rewind etc.

Today at work was my turn to pick the music that plays when our callers are in the waiting que. Needless to say, I picked one of my Prince streams. All day when the callers got through to a rep., they were upset. Not because they'd been waiting, (as they usually are) mind you. They were upset because they'd get a rep, right in the middle of a Prince tune they were jamming to and the reps interrupted. falloff

We got so many comments and compliments about how cool it was to hear Prince while they were waiting, that my District Manager called me personally, to ask for a link to the stream. I thought I was in trouble but no, his wife is a big time Prince fan and he wanted it for her. touched lol

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I just was exploring Spotify to see whether I'm interested in the service, and I noticed there are nearly 1 milliom people following P's music.

Is that a good sign?

I'm totally unfamiliar with these streaming services.

I hope it's not low. Thoughts?

hmmm Not familiar either but 1 million seems like a lot to me. I have all of Prince's music already in different formats, so I don't need Spotify, but you make me want to get it just to support those numbers! lol

Well, you sound like me.

I definitely have googobs of P schtuff (bought in many formats over the years, plus shared and other). My adult kids have been tryna get me to use Spotify for awhile and I never was interested, but I joined Tidal when I heard P had approved them having his catalogue (I wanted to be supportive but I never used it) and now I also joined Spotify to be supportive.

I'm just getting to where I use iTunes to organize and enjoy my P files and my kids have shown me a few things about that for enjoying P.

I used to listen to the radio in my car, but now that I'm retired and don't drive much, I also don't listen to the radio much. At home I'm usually listening to what I like (P) on my laptop with iTunes, sooooo...

I can see how the younger folks are very reliant of streaming their music though so I'm glad they'll be able to discover P, but I don't know how much I'll participate in streaming myself.

We'll see.

It isn't free if you can't listen to an album without stupid commercials in between songs.

I had a big issue with scratching my Prince CDs so all my P library was purchased and downloaded from ITunes. I also have Apple Music and I'm finding the remastering of the albums is much better when I stream the songs from Apple Music. I'm hearing things on the songs that I remember hearing when I was a young lad buying my Vinyl from my record store in my strip mall. I love Apple Music personally. Renting music is a true blessing when you have access to millions of songs for the price of a Big Mac combo with pouting fries from McDonald's.

This needed to happen

Yesterday some one asked me if I knew the song "the morning papers".
I said "of course"

They were blown away by it and only
Heard it bc of some a playlist that Spotify assembled

His "non-hits" were grossly under heard.
Hopefully this is a step on the path of correcting that

Same here. I have thousands of CDs and maybe a hundred LPs now. A handful of SACDs. And I stream through a paid subscription. I love it all. Well, not the SACDs...

Anyway, what I find hilarious about this whole issue is that there apparently are people who truly wanted to listen to Prince's music since he died but just couldn't, I don't know, BUY A FUCKING CD ON AMAZON OR DOWNLOAD AN ALBUM FROM ITUNES. They waited it out until this whole Spotify deal went down. Yeah, it's cool that people have access to more of his music now. That's awesome. But anyone who tries to say they just couldn't get his music before Spotify is lazy as balls.

The iTunes samples of Prince songs sound the same to me as my ripped CDs.

Gotta say... flippin' around inside the catalogue is actually quite fun... Plus - so nice to so many numbers checking out the various songs and then checking out The Time and Sheila...how much fun would it be for them to be able to check out The Family or Madhouse?
