Which 2 musical artists does Prince paraphrase in songs he wrote? (disclaimer, making this stuff up as I go, there may be more examples of this)

James Brown "mother popcorn" Gett Off

Joni Mitchel "Help Me" Ballad of Dorothy parker

Yes, those were the two I was thinking of, well done

new Q, first time Prince used an alternative spelling in a song title, ok , maybe I am not sure of answer!

no but you are close with Morris. Someone he knew for years.

(and some have fussed at me: I think she is confused. She said she met him at a concert in LA. His first concerts in LA were late 1979...)

Do you mind if I ask a question too?

1. Looking at his songs/albums in chronological order, which was the first full VERSE that was sung by Prince in his full chest voice?

2. And which was the first full SONG sung in chest voice (including falsetto harmonies above it)?

3. + (excluding falsetto harmonies above it)?

Yes, Controversy was the answer to #2 (first full song with chest voice, including falsetto harmonies). How about the first verse, and the first full song without dual chest/falsetto like Controversy? biggrin
