Diamonds & Pearls: (I don't really hate it, but I think it's highly overrated). When hearing it on a live recording it's time for me fast forward.

The above I really can’t listen to…
then there’s Adore, which is OK, but I just don’t “get it”… I humbly accept it’s my shortcoming, but I regularly put it on with an open mind, and every time it leaves me cold.

.

I disagree with your list BUT I'm with you on "Adore". I have tried and tried to "get it".

MY HATE is for Tamborine.
But I don't know if ANYONE else loves that one.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I do! Tamborine fits perfectly on ATWIAD. Now Temptation on the other hand...not a huge fan of that one.

I feel the same way.A few years earlier,Prince was putting out bold, edgy singles like "Controversy" and "1999" and I think "Raspberry Beret" was too pop,too safe for a Prince single.

I don't like "Take Me With U." Hate is a strong word, and I don't dislike it enough to say I hate it, but I usually skip it when I listen to PR.

I can honestly say that is the one song that has never grown on me in any way form or fashion. Usually a song I might not be into finds a moment at some point, not that one, ever.

Still would stand all time.

It's terrrible shouty over produced saccharine quasi religious shite, and a watershed moment in his career, you knew it was downhill from there, and then the next song, Graffiti Bridge, just confirmed your worst fears like a punch in the gut.

I can stil remember the first time I heard them, nearly 27 years ago.

Haha yeah. It kiiinda is. A lot of his slow jams are kinda like, "Uhhhhmmmmm.... NOPE!" to me. They're fun to listen to (I think I finally, after many years, stopped laughing like an idiot at Insatiable!), but lil dude would get punched with those lines he used if he tried them on me. I was a punchy teenager, and I have not lost the knack of embarrassing the HELL out of dudes using cheesy lines.

But he's cute, though. So I might refrain from actually punching and just pat him on the head like he's a puppy and going, "You cute widdle baby, that's tooootally not gonna happen. EVER." lol

I think Sign O The Times album is overrated. It's a hodgepdge of songs, some of them great like If I was your girlfriend, others really stupid like Starfish and Coffee.

This thread is refreshing. I haven't dared post negatively about P's music in case I was ripped apart. I love that songs I dislike but think are everyone's favourites appear not to be the case. So here are mine:

TMBGITW (far too mushy for my taste)
Cream (meh)
Parade (the album - I just don't get it & Ive really really tried)!

But your tastes have matured? Only joking! That's my pioint, I know lots of people rate it really highly, but I can't stand it. Apart from Melody Cool (which I love) side 4 of GB is not for me.

Well, GB is not on my top ten anymore, but I quite like most of the Prince songs in it. I hate The Time songs (bizarrely, as I'm a bit obsessed with their first three albums...) and don't care much for Round and Round and We Can Funk (the 1986 version, however, is amazing). And Still Would Stand All Time... The messianic performance in the film is a bit off-putting, but I love the song!

I think I get it now, but even up until a few years ago, it just sounded super dated to me. Like Kraftwerk's The Man Machine with some guitar licks on top.

And not in the super delicious fusion way.

I didn't really understand what forum I could possibly listen to it. But for younger naive me, there were things that didn't make sense.

Could I really get into a dance groove while contemplating HIV or overlooking logical acrobatics one's mind could have gone through to justify the narrative that his nephew went from trying herb and then hitting up heroin on the reg within 9 months?

edit: included "didn't" up there as it's what was intended.

Sign of the Times is a GREAT song, but I agree with your dislike of some of the lyrics.

I hate those statistics that imply that pot is a gateway drug.

If they studied all of those heroine addicts, I am sure that they would discover that they all drank alcohol, and smoked cigarettes, before they used heroin too.

And nobody is saying that tobacco or alcohol are gateway drugs.

Nobody gets high and beats up their wife.

When people get high they do a lot of stupid stuff and laugh at their own stupidity, they raid the refrigerator, they watch The Teletubbies, and they go to sleep.

The melody sounds childish and starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam and a side order of ham sets your mind free? Umm okay...
