Ok, seriously? If that story runs true, then he deserves to get his ass reamed. You don't leave someone out in the middle of nowhere if you're their only transportation, no matter how much you dislike them. I'd've found a way to punch the little jerk in the face. Directly. I mean, come the fuck on, brah! That's just ridiculous and childish.

I think it's hysterical. It wasn't in the middle of a field somewhere. They were driving around Lake of the Isles or something, and he dropped her off and left her. Lake of the Isles in the middle of town, like 5 blocks from Calhoun Square. I've walked to it from Calhoun Square. As I stated, they weren't out in a field in Edina or something.

I may be wrong, but I think he always used "bitch" when he was mad with desire for a girl, or being tongue in cheek. "Irresistible Bitch", "The Sex Of It", "Shockadelica" come to mind.

Prince was well versed in sex wars, maybe he knew that at some point the "bitchy" means also empowerment of the woman, even if it's not the most glamourous way to exist. I think every girl now and then experiences the power her sex has over men, and it can even be a source of excitement.
Same goes for men : you can be an asshole for a phase, and then go back to normal.
The real trouble is with people of both genders staying in the asshole/bitch zone permanently, because they've found the main source of their self-esteem in it. A recurrent behaviour in abused children, or anyone traumatized by a deception.

It's the usual honesty you get from Prince : he's not gonna mince words with a girl that drives him nuts. In "Irresistible Bitch", the operative word is "Irresistible". The "Bitch" part only explains why Prince is compelled to take in "so much abuse". I wouldn't go as far as saying that "Bitch" is to be taken as a compliment in the song, but quite. She must be one hell of a magnetic girl, and she's obviously too self-conscious of that, hence the several partners that have our Princey going all frustrated and calling her names.

I dunno, I guess I could wear "bitch" proudly under certain circumstances and life periods, if I were a girl. The problem still lies with uneducated men that don't know how to manage their own sexual drive, let alone understand and accept others. But what do I know, to quote Gwen Stefani, I'm Just A Boy.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

Does it bother you? And if you are not a woman, what do you think about him using it? Would you use these words in some of your lyrics? Does it bother you that you shouldn't sing these songs (unless you alter the lyrics)

Eh. I don't love it but it's so standard for men.

Now, c_t is fighting words.

IKR?

I must admit, given the right set of circumstances, that one does get under my skin a bit more than I'd like.

Nope, not at all. Especially when applied to Cheryl Johnson, aka C.J., the no-talent hack employed by the Star Tribune who spent years referring to Prince as "Symbolina" and wrote numerous columns chiding everything the man did. He got her back not only with the song, but had her thrown out of PP once during a gala the mayor of Mpls was holding there. When she opened her mouth to complain about the $100 she paid to attend the event one of Prince's bodyguards produced a crisp $100 bill which she grudgingly accepted as she was escorted out. falloff

Sorry, back on topic: His use of certain words was never an issue for me. He used them in the right context it seemed and were pretty tame compared to others out there.

Why was that woman so relentlessly snide to P?

Even when he tried to not be mean back she just kept coming. Even after 4/21 she did an article being snide under cover of "Yeah, I'll miss him". Doesn't make sense.

She even admits to taking her friend, a P fan, to see PP and P being in the driveway and him talking to her about why she was so unpleasant to him all the time and she says P asked her if he had dated her in high school or something and she says she told him that she doubted she was "his type".

Was that her problem with him? Mad cuz she had a crush on him but figured she didn't have a chance with him so she decided to be publicly mean?

confused sad

[Edited 1/30/17 23:27pm]

Good question. I'm not really sure. Possibly because there was so little else to write about in Mpls? But still why such nastiness? My guess is she was trying to come across sharp and witty or something, no idea. Then when he took the bait she just ran with it because she's pathetic. Thats my best guess. I cancelled my subscription to the star trib years ago because of her column. In that article she wrote about him after he passed she mentioned the song "BJB" and quipped at least she wasn't the subject of "Darling Nikki" like that would have been so much worse!? I don't think so! Lol
BTW I had never heard the story about him dropping her off and making her walk. But I suppose it's possible. Just surprised I never heard it before.

I'd never heard that story of him making her walk either.

I've heard about her being asked to leave an event hosted at PP.

And I've heard the story I posted upthread about her taaking her friend to see PP and P talking to her there.

I think mebbe she was one of those gals who had a longstanding crush on P and like any unrequited crush sometimes, just for any attention (including negative) they'll act out.

Sad.

Is CJ married? Does she have a family?

Honestly, if you even feel the need to say "b-word" and "h-word" on a forum of Prince fans, you should fold up your vagina and listen Lena Dunham interviews for the rest of your life.

It's still weird you get a parental advisory sticky for talking about masturbation, but not for talking specific joes (like Amy Winehouse... but I still love her).

"Hooker, bitch and ho, I don't think so
I only knew one and never told her though
I thought about many times (Diss me?)
But that's the kind of shit that make you check your mind"

I remember when I first heard "Irresistible Bitch", and thought (based on how the word was used when I was growing up) damn that's foul, but this is funky! But the more I listened, the more I realized that he was kinda using bitch in a different context, as the song ultimately is one of his "women on a pedestal" tomes in which he is the one that is actually acting like a "bitch". He can't resist, admits he's a fool, doesn't care about being embarrassed in front of his boys, etc. So while I may be missing a few instances where he used these words to mean exactly what they do, the mos memorable lines kind of "flip the script" on the meaning.

Context is priority number one to me.

The words in and of themselves mean nothing, but if I'm listening to a song and that's all I can hear being said in the song then it's garbage to me and not worth my time, art aside. This has not been a problem listening to Prince, I know what he's expressing.

This is not about anyone on the forum, blue gangsta, but just be aware he also wrote these words in some of his lyrics. I'm not commenting on whether he was right or wrong. It is just a discussion.

Also, noting he has used these words during the 70's, 80's and 90's, I do see a change in his tone of voice towards women and his usage of certain words in the millennium.

What made him change his word usage later in life? Was he more aware of his respect for others during this time?

I am not a fan of your agenda.Your suggestion is despicable to me. No offense to anyone on here.

She was married briefly, but currently divorced. No children. She is originally from the south (Alabama, Arkansas, Atlanta ? Can't recall exactly) so I don't believe she has family in the area. I think her niche has always been the opposite of Minnesota Nice because it gets her attention. Attention is attention even if it's negative.
