They ranked his halftime show as the best...as they should because it IS the best. It is the standard by which all other Super Bowl halftime shows are measured. It will be hard to top the greatness of Prince's performance because many performers don't have the gumption to put on a truly live performance (no lip syncing) in front of 100+ million people. Also, Prince wasn't scared of the rain, even though electricity and rain don't mix.

I think that the Super Bowl was such an important moment in his career because it helped to redefine his image to the general public. To the everyday person who isn't a Prince fan, they would watch that performance and say, "Wow, he is a really great performer." I know that as a kid, I thought he was a weirdo because he changed his name to the symbol and wrote slave across his face. That Super Bowl performance gave people something else to associate with Prince than changing his name to a symbol and having "slave" on his face.

It didnt start to rain when Purple Rain started, it was raining from the start of the performance. Jamie sounds like he only watched the performance once to not realize this.

I made a post about this performance a while ago saying he didnt have the songs that would fit in a halftime show so he covered other people's songs throughout the show. I stick by what i said.

Him performing Best of You killed the flow of the performance imo.. It feels so random that he threw in the Foo Fighter song in the set with 100 millions watching... In these performances every min count, he should have made and performed new song suited for the Superbowl.

With a catalog as vast as his nott having songs wouldn't be a problem. Idk why he chose to cover other artists, but I think it was beautiful. In fact, I've heard quite the opposite from a younger fan of his. While touring PP this young man's jaw dropped as we watched this performance. He was too young to remember watching this live but remarked at how great prince's version of the Foo song was and he was going to watch it again the minute he got home. To me and many others his performance was that night flawless considering all factors.
