I was just making the point that he's been around for a while.

I'm not sure it matters what he does other than the podcast? I don't think you care either.

To put it in context, this was one sentence out of an hour long(ish) podcast. There are about 35 podcasts. The rest of the time he's collating news, and talking to former bandmates & engineers.

His name is forever linked to Prince. He was technically the distributor of various live songs and some "singles" too I think? #NoSubscription #NoSponsor so I just can't be anything but grateful.

i hear what ur saying. as i stated in my post, i think its just the difference in fandom, how we as fans manifest our love for prince's work. i have listened to several of his podcasts and there is good info provided by his guests. his comments are usually the baiting kind.

I don't hear it. Baiting who? And why would Morris Hayes or anyone else want to talk to him if that was the case?

>?<

i would like to know what he does other than prince related stuff bcos i think it would give more insight and context to his commentary during the prince podcasts. would he have anything to talk about other than prince trivia and setlists? is he a parent? does he have an office job? is he a promoter? what is his relationship with the estate/relatives? all of those things would color his approach to prince's life and work.

I think this is unimportant. I have no real idea what the guys at The Prince Podcast/Peach & Black Podcast do. Other than them being Prince fans. If DrF stopped talking about Prince and started talking about himself. I'd stop listening.

</>

i have noticed that he repeats that he "has been approached for input" several times but he never says who it is that wants his input and on what things concerning prince's legacy. that's the behavoir of someone who wants to be asked but hasn't been yet. he also said that the PP people "acknowledged him "at that last dance party. what does that even mean?

I don't know any specific examples off the top of my head. But we do know that he has spoken to various media outlets. He's in the GQ article, so you could probably find out if you search. I don't know if he's still "inner circle". I'd imagine not, but he clearly still has connections, and the people he's talked to have never called him out. So...

re his baiting: in different podcasts he says things like,

  • "i don't want to reveal who it is bcos it will hurt fans... maybe at a later date"(how fucking patronizing is that! most of us are adults FFS)
  • "u know that stuff with the divorce papers, i mean divorces get ugly and i know some things that were said and... then u know the tamar thing.... "
  • " i have let it be known that i would love to help and some people have asked me for input but.. "

of course i'm paraphrasing bcos i can't be bothered to re-listen to everything, but i think u get the point. would it be so difficult to say "i think bob george and buffy are fake as hell and i know they're just innit to get keep their names out there." or "graceland asked me to help with the museum stuff but it was too soon." anyone should be able to speak freely and plainly about anything they truly know. that he keeps this BS going suggests to this fan that he doesn't. that he's leaning into pictures just like a lot of them. and he's not carrying some albatross to keep the prince legacy pure and true all by himself.

--

I agree that he couldn't be in the "inner circle" since there isn't one anymore- prince is dead. the inner circle surrounded him and now they've scattered or lost their jobs or whatever.

I'm sure he is able. Clearly didn't want to though, for whatever reason. I mean all of this was 6 months ago & right after P passed. He's doing a free podcast, it's not like he owes anybody anything.

Yeah in that regard. However someone has been going though the vault for the past 6 months.

The Phase 2 engineers didn't mention anything. Which seems odd. Who exactly is handling all that? There's been no announcement other than Tyka naming a random number of songs. My point being, we kind of need a fan on the inside.

OT, I am waiting and watching to see if she will appear at the Cele next year...

If she's not there then I think it's pretty clear she has issues with the estate or perhaps Rev band members. When the Rev performed at First Ave Sheila made no mention of it on social media which I though was odd. Also the statement she made about the official tribute. Sure it wasn't the best organized event but others made an effort to be there, I think she could have as well.

according to Mazarati guitarist Tony Christian Mazarati Sheila E & the Revolution are going on tour together in 2017

Sheila E is an older lady and doesn't have much to live for probably and Prince was probably the most exciting part of her entire life, and of course she wanted to marry him and he got away. So I get how she is kind of obsessed in dealing with it all and I don't really care if she sells symbol shirts, because would rather money go to her than some sibling that Prince hadn't talked to in 20 years. I mean c'mon.

She played a whole lot of Prince songs on the recent show of hers that I saw in November. it was almost a P Tribute show and that's cool. She's alright and hope she keeps on.

You must not know anything about Sheila E and her life/career.

I agree with you. The thing is that a lot of people are gullible because they are so hungry and desperate for any tidbit of information that they will swallow the shit along with the sugar. It's at the point now that folks don't even see that they are being manipulated by hangers-on who are jockeying for position.

That's not limited to fkucberry either. They are all running their own particular brand of BS.

1. It isnt difficult to get any formerly connected people with Prince on a podcast. Most want the shine and recognition. Some havent been relevant in decades and to be interviewed is a plus for them. Same with the tchnicians and such.

2. Why is this bs in the Prince forum?

BFD, he is not the only person with contacts, who gets interviews. Prince is gone and IDGAF about what embellishments and exaggerations are being said by former associates in his absence. None of it matters because he is not here to either confirm or deny anything.

If people want to keep their heads up his ass then so be it, but without Prince none of this is as important to me as it used to be. I am content hearing FACTS from sources without an agenda to push.

HAHAHA Uhhh, yes, he knew Prince, and was friends with him. He 'leaked' a lot of Prince 411 over recent years, which came directly from Prince.

Regarding the Sheila comment: He comes across as kind of bitchy and a know-it-all. I do share the sentiment of Sheila and the butterfly symbol. She seems to think she's the de facto tribute payer, and only she can do this or that, and she has the right to plaster his name and symbol etc all over the place and make some money from it. She comes across like she's the only one grieving or something. And I love Sheila, but post April 21, she's really taken it all to a new level of ....whatever it is.

Funkenberry might be feeling left out after Prince died. I don't know how close he was with others, or who has included him in anything, but I suppose anyone that was also around Prince can choose to stay friendly with whoever they wish or not. Someone's gonna get pissy somewhere, at some point. Some might have seen Funkenberry as an interloper or a hanger-on, whereas maybe he saw others that way. It's all relative, really. I mean, if he's going to call someone out, just do it. Don't go posting blind items, because the rumor mill in the purple kingdom runs 24/7 anyway. Don't fuel it.

Obviously this guy had a tight relationship with Prince but like you say who knows if that extended to other Prince associates so it is possible he feels a bit left out or bitter/hurt about certain things and uses his podcast to vent. I don't like it though when he says he won't name names because he thinks it will hurt the fans. Um, we're all adults I think we can handle it. Plus don't throw shade and spill tea if you're not prepared (or able) to tell us everything. As far as Sheila goes, seeing her plaster Prince's love symbol over everything rubs me the wrong way. There's just something about it that's kinda creepy. And imo that tattoo is 2 or 3 sizes to big. 15578753_1350602081657001_1816257242335283001_n.jpg?oh=e60a29bf0689c82beb7bab7dc905a1a6&oe=58E52458

.

I agree. I mean, I like Sheila E., and I know she has a long history with Prince, but I'm kinda uncomfortable with how she is constanly flashing Prince's symbol and using it in her concerts and in social media. She posts pics on FB quite often showing the "symbol". I understand that she is grieving and this is her way of keeping his memory alive and his spirit close to her; however, I think it's starting to get too much lately, and it almost seems like she is exploiting and capitalizing off of Prince, as well as others, imo.

i don't intend to diss sheila if you are referring to me, I'm just telling you what i know. Much of it is what she's said herself, the not working with Prince again and how prince left her penniless. It doesn't really look like she was close to him in the last few years and she seems to have had some resentments about the end of the Lovesexy tour. She was close to him at one time so naturally, people are going to talk to her. I don't think it's necessarily bad, i don't know what is in her heart, and I have heard through people who did know her that she was a very nice person. I think everyone is being a little delusional about Prince and being close to them though. The Revolution to my knowledge, as I've said, weren't around him much for the last 20 odd years, how close can any of them be to him? It's a funny thing, i remember when Quincy Jones was interviewed after MJ's death he said some stuff that people still haven't forgiven him for and seemed to be gloating that MJ died, but like Sheila and many other people, Quincy hadn't worked with Michael in about 20 years. Quincy tries to say today that he was angry at MJ for dying like that but I read it at the time as someone having the last laugh at someone else's expense.

Sheila and Prince were definitely close during the 2000s. They performed together at the NAACP, ALMA and Brit awards; she performed with him on the 20Ten and W2A tours. They had a fall out during the W2A tour (2011 I believe) so I don't know how close they were in the last 5 years or so. But considering he was doing the 3EG thing they might not have been working together much anyway. Though he did perform GL and LB at shows like SXSW in 2013. I loved when Prince performed with Sheila. He seemed so happy (example video below). I feel the same way about someone like Shelby. They just seem like people he was really comfortable around. Note too that Shelby, Liv and Elisa all performed with Sheila at the BET awards. I'm not crazy about Sheila plastering his love symbol everywhere but as far as her feelings right after he died being sort of an act? I don't know that anyone can say that...and Funkenberry might not have been referring to her. I just don't know who else it could be.

.

Rog: I agree; I think Prince and Sheila had a relationship that no one can really ever understand. I'm sure they had their issues, but it seems they got things all sorted out. They loved each other. Sheila said she could not marry Prince, because of his flirtatious ways, which I don't blame her. I think Prince was upset that she wrote in her book that they were "engaged", and the media keeps trying to spin that story; it's like it's become a selling point for her, imo.

Uh-hummm........."Older lady who doesn't have much to live for?" hmm

.

Seriously, what does age have to do with living and/or the quality of life! Sheila E. just celebrated her 58th Birthday, and I will say she looks mighty damn good at 58!! Honestly, she looks better than some 30-somethings, imo

.

Sheila E. has accomplished a lot in her life! She is incredibly talented and beautiful, and rose above the odds in a male-dominated career! Oh yea, and she had PRINCE too!! She loved Prince and he loved her. They were electric together. They had a friendship & a bond that could never be broken. prince heart

I wonder does she have clearance from the estate to use the love symbol on instruments, clothing etc? And I love me some Sheila but that ad for her cruise with the boat painted purple was too much...just stop.

He gets people on the show who actually worked with Prince in recent years. So he does have contacts. It is getting to the point were no one who was around Prince knows anything according to the people of Prince.org.

1. It isnt difficult to get any formerly connected people with Prince on a podcast. Most want the shine and recognition. Some havent been relevant in decades and to be interviewed is a plus for them. Same with the tchnicians and such.

2. Why is this bs in the Prince forum?

Thank you. nod

Yes, I wonder that, myself. I would think that would be an issue with copyright infringement, but I'm not a lawyer, so idk for sure.

Yea.....that purple cruise ship with her name spelled wrong! LMAO!! lol

.

Really tacky! Prince would be giving the side-eye for sure! LOL hmm

What embellishments or exaggerations have been made the engineers and musicians have all been respectful and I do not recall anyone pushing an agenda. I would rather here what these people have to say then what TMZ has to say.

Wavesofbliss, (who I was actually replying to, btw), has already detailed that in her post.....go back and read it you don't know what we are talking about.

re his baiting: in different podcasts he says things like,

I agree that he couldn't be in the "inner circle" since there isn't one anymore- prince is dead. the inner circle surrounded him and now they've scattered or lost their jobs or whatever.

I've gotten to the point where I pay all of them dust.

So I'm not the only one that gives Funkenberry the side eye? I don't question his sincerity as a fan or how he feels about Prince's legacy, but I don't like his little gossipy tidbits either. It makes him seem like a two faced attention whore who's trying to stay relevant because Prince is gone. Either call the questionable folks out by name if you have the receipts or leave the rumors to the Twitter and FB timelines. He can clearly get good guests who worked closely with Prince so why the extra?

You don't even know what you are talking about. No one is pushing an agenda but you. These people have more insight then you have and you are for some odd reason this disturbs you. The question is why? Just don't listen to the podcast and go and enjoy life.
