DrFunk Podcast - Phase 2 Engineers

Chris James and Dylan Dresdow Grammy nominated engineers of Phase 2.

https://itunes.apple.com/...72594?mt=2

http://www.stitcher.com/p...nk-podcast

I searched for the Oscars 2007 appearance but I couldn't find anything. It sounded like the kind of thing Prince might have had removed? Youtube needs more celebrities being weird around Prince.

Interesting they say Prince wasn't that great when it came to computers. I was under the impression he was doing things this way more often post 2000.

Yeah, the recent GQ article DrF says the same, when he observed Prince using a mouse. But the guy was clearly an early adopter of technology.

I've had the sense that Prince chose to keep some things old school. I'm the same way. After all, he didn't even want a cell phone.
You can still get by and do what you need to without knowing a lot about computers, esp if you have someone helping you out with things when you need it.

Is another nice listen, so thanks Mr Funkenberry. Also go check out the susan Rodgers post. Another great watch/listen. That should stay on this main page. All prince fans should watch it.

It's a shame he gets so many great guests. I find his podcasts incredibly hard to listen too - too often inane questions and a forced personality, if any.

Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

" Can't say I feel the same. But in instances like this it'd have been cool if they'd pulled out a copy of the album and gone though it track by track with their insights... the sound Prince wanted, if there were alternate versions etc.

After this podcast I decided to listen to Peach and Black's podcast of this album. They do what you're talking about. They also include surveys from fans about many different things about the album. Really detailed as far as the music itself. They cover AOA in 2 parts and it's interesting that I believe they never did the 2nd part until post-4/21. (I think).
Pretty good and enjoyable listen.

I like Dr. Funkenberry for a lot of other reasons.

^ P&B tend to review albums.

I'm not suggesting the two people who engineered the album should review it. They worked on it, it's probably fair to say that out of 10 they'd give it an 11.

But it'd have been cool if DrF had said "OK, Rock'n'Roll Love Affair"... gone though the album track by track kind of thing.

I can actually say that I enjoyed this podcast for a change because sometimes Funkenberry gets a great big eye roll from me. I wonder why Phase 2 only picked up an engineering nomination when this album was more urban contemporary/R&B than most of the records in the categories? I try not to put too much stock into awards shows but still...

Well he does like the fact that Prince would send things to us through him. And he does tend to give a more personal side of Prince, even though they never met or barely met before...it's his perception.

I believe he sometimes favors certain artists and people too. But overall it's usually pretty interesting to listen to his shows.

Yes. Subjective is a great word.

He has said he went to Paisly Park a few times and he was at the 3121 parties. He think he got to be friendly with the engineers and sound people who worked for Prince.

I am not so sure he and Prince were best buds and I don't think he has said anything to imply that they were.

I'm not sure why he gets such a hard time. He does a lot for fans, he always had the setlists and gig reviews. Quite a few "leaks" were via him. More recently all these podcasts. The dude has a donate button on his website, but never asked for a penny.

He's probably overtaken Bart as the most famous Prince fan. That can only be a good thing.

Just in this last podcast I believe he alluded to having never met Prince. I believe he said he was very nervous when he almost met P because I remember thinking, Gee. Prince was just another human being. I mean, we know he was great, but so many people have said this.

^ If you go back and listen to earlier episodes he talks about Prince trying to figure out who Dr Funkenberry was. They've met multiple times. The people he's talking to in these podcasts know who he is.

Wasn't Dr Funkenberry in the studio with Prince and Andy Allo while they were recording Superconductor?

He also interviewed Prince (though the full interview was never published in its entirety) so I'm pretty sure he did meet him.

The reason he gets all these guests is because Prince trusted him.
