A Soldier in Prince’s Revolution

Drummer Bobby Z opens up about his close relationship with Prince and the early battles they overcame together to create a band and keep the music alive.

SOme great Quotes here..and such a good read...

From day one I know that you don’t get in the way of him recording. You can suggest things and do things, but if he’s hearing it in his head, just get out of the way. Just put your ego away, don’t get hurt about it, just participate.

He was writing all the time. I’d drop him off at his house he was renting at 52nd and France Avenue, go home and get four to five hours of sleep, and I’d pick him up and he’s got a tape and he’s written new songs while I’m asleep.

He was just Prince. He’s not normal. He’s just really this exotic creature

I had early knowledge that anybody that came in contact with Prince was about to be eaten alive and time-vampired to death

Cool interview and I love Bobby, he's the loveliest person ever, but how many times will we have to hear this Rolling Stones story again?

Some of those quotes are just spot on. He describes Prince the enigma so well Lol at the tribute in October Bobby said the most lovely, respectful things about Prince and you knew he was sincere and genuine about the fond memories he shared that night

FlyOnTheWall

This is such an enjoyable read. I loved how he was claiming the drummer gig, even before Prince realized that he was going to hire him. Or...maybe P knew all along. With Prince Rogers Nelson, who knows???

I guess the reporters assume most people don't know the story, which is probably true. Of course we hardcore fans are not the only people reading those interviews...
