Out of curiosity, where did David Bowie's Legacy debut?

I think it's worth remembering that P passed 7 months ago and his Greatest Hits then scaled the top of the charts...

I came back to edit my previous thoughts. This compilation didn't have much time to sell before the charts, and I actually do think it's a good idea to put out a somewhat well-known hits record with some other things on it too, for beginner listeners. [Edited 12/3/16 11:52am]

I didn't buy it (broke) n prolly won't when I get sum $ . I suppose I agree w/ gp in that I have all these songs times over (including Moonbeam Levels ). Gonna start saving up 4 PR Deluxe tho (n that last Kendrick effort iac ) . Hope it doesn't deter them from future releases . For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Let's not forget that it only had 3 days to count for this week's chart. A foolish move on Warner's part.

Some people on the org think prince was still a mega-seller. He was not. Yes his fanbase bought his new albums, but those albums dropped always quickly off the charts. His fanbase isnt gonna buy 4ever (some might) they have all the tracks.

Well, if this was planned release, as I keep hearing, then it was just a timing thing so whatever. I'm not worried about it. I don't have a copy yet. I thought I'd be able to get it in stores (I miss that experience), but since I couldn't find it before the holiday rush, I'm not even going to try to get out there now. Amazon here I come.

Warners aren't doing enough to promote this project. They should have treated "Moonbeam Levels" as a big deal......they could have easily put together some kind of video for it (using older footage,of course) or at the very least, release a lyric video for it!

He goes back to a major lable and receives no promotion. I hope fulfills whatever contractual obligations Prince had with WB as quickly as possible. If these morons get their hands on vault material we will get 10 greatest compilations.

I made a thread already about the PRINCE 4EVER album sales...
And that is not the first week sales, only 3 days sales. The real first week total will be up this week.///

Plus I hate the title (it's fine as a Twitter hashtag but not for an album title). I also don't like that they included two songs Prince most likely wouldn't have which then required a parental advisory sticker. I already have his greatest hits CD so felt no need to purchase this. It seems like a completely pointless release. Like others have said non-die hard fans already bought his greatest hits back in April and die hards would have no interest in something like this. Stupid. Paisley Park is in your heart

I was expecting a full page ad in The New York Times arts section - I didn't see anything. Nothing on TV. Where is the promotion for this set? It isn't aimed at people who have most of his albums, but how can it sell if consumers don't know it's out there?

Remember, it was released on Tuesday instead of the industry standard Friday, meaning it charted with only 3 days of sales instead of 7. Also, the album chart incorporates streams from YouTube and Spotify now, and the album isn't available there. It debuted at #48 on the sales-only chart. . The midweek release was a poor strategy.

There's no real mystery as to why it's not selling well. Anybody could have predicted that outcome. The general public who aren't too familiar with his music but showed some interest after his death would have already downloaded what they want from torrent sites and such. They have no real need for this type of release. And Prince fans, though I can only speak for myself here, aren't going to buy a 40 track album of songs they already own. It's illogical. Why would anyone buy something they already have. The only interesting part of this collection to me is Moonbeam Levels but I already had a near identical version to the one that's included on 4ever. I don't think it represents good value for money to buy a whole album for one song. So I downloaded it. As I suspect a lot of Prince fans did. Basically, this type of release is for collectors or people who must have everything. Which, for any artist, would be a small amount of people. Now, if they put out a whole album of studio outtakes in perfect sound quality, I'll buy that. I'd pay good money for it. He's supposed to have had several unreleased albums in the vault. Focus on releasing them. Promote them as "new" Prince albums. They'd sell quite a bit. Start a remastered series where every remaster includes a second or third disc of outtakes or alternate versions. I'd buy that. But don't expect people to pay for songs they've already bought years ago.

It was part of the deal to get back the masters. Giving up something to get something. I suspect he wanted to get those masters back badly for him to do business with this knobs again.

Honestly I only care about this to the extent whomever was involved is also involved with the vault. If it's the same people then I'm worried. Paisley Park is in your heart

because the general public really cares about Moonbeam Levels and Girls & Boys single edit? They already bought a best of with all the hits back in April. This is getting the chart position it deserves. [Edited 11/29/16 13:40pm]
