Laura,

Have you done research on this Ruffles Van Exel?! I did a bit last night, and he seems to only show up "after death", has been implacated in Whitney's death, MJ, etc. What the HELL was he doing at the Emancipation party?! Thoughts?

I did some research on him. He is a con man and a bad dude. He appears to have met Londell when Londell was representing Katherine Jackson when she was trying to sue AGE live and trying to get rid of the admins of Mike's estate.

The fact that Londell associates with this guy makes me look at his suspiciously. Now I wonder how close he was to Prince in the last years of his life and why he has buggled this thing with Tidal so badly and who is paying for the Emanicpation party? What was the purpose of it? Was it income generating? Was the press invited?

Mr. Van Exel has also been accused of being a spy for TMZ. It is that reason TMZ went with the bogus 40 million deal or seemed to be following P around the day before he died.

I hope the family can get rid of Londell and find someone else.

He could be and feeding info to TMZ. I wish I knew someone who get in touch with the family just the fact that Londell associates with this person spells trouble.

If the party had been a celeb-affair then the paparazzi would have been all over it.

So if it wasn't a celeb party to celebrate "Emancipation" then t was more likely a business meeting under the guise of a party. Llondel is at present charged with taking all that Prince music and turning it into cash.

Do you think he is doing a good job? The lawsuit alone is ridculous and this con-artist is associating with.

He was Prince's Lawyer for a while (even gets a name check on "Y should I do that (When I can do this", then he was Prince's manager... then he was neither. "Fired" probably isn't the right word.

I don;t know if he fired him. Prince changed mgmt and bands every 4 or 5 years so Londell may have just servered his time.

I'm not sure.

This seems like the first thing he's actually done? It's shrouded in secrecy. Which seems bizarre... Why have an album anniversary party but not involve fans?... Or the other way of asking the same question - What is he doing that he doesn't want fans to know?

About a year ago Prince decided he didn't want Universal managing his publishing, so he set up NPG publishing... Prince died and the estate went right back to Universal as a result NPG Publishing doesn't have anything to publish so I'm guessing it no longer exists.

Since Prince passed, Llondel has been going after fans sharing audience recorded bootlegs. Meanwhile the NYC Purple Rain shows (the REAL money) are for sale and nothing is being done about it.

The youtube nonsense continues - OK understandable in a way... but if they're taking it off Youtube - put it on Netflix. It's not rocket science. Prince already has a few DVD releases which could be uploaded with little to no effort. The older VHS releases might need some work, but it's not a mamoth task.

Then, there is 4Ever cash-grab. Which is again, understandable, but I think the Piano & Mic shows (also greatest hits) would have been more appropriate.

It's in Llondels interest to drag this out as long as possible. As far as I understand, once it's resolved the family will own everything Prince owned and Llondel will be telling storys about how he used to work with for Prince.

I believe 4Ever was put togehter before Prince passes away so I don't think Londell had anything to do with it. Going back to Universal when Prince had his own company sat up to administer was stupid.

Universal is going to get their cut and that takes money away from the estate. but I do not think NPG Publishing has been done away for two reasons.

1) NPG is listed as the enity suing Tidal not the estate of Prince Rogers Nelson. Means the business is still in tact but for some reason is not going to act as the admin anymore or if Universal is just in a partnership with NPG publishing. Not sure what is going on.

2) Not sure if NPG is a part of the estate but if it is the family will inheir it and can continue to run it. If NPG is a stand alone LLC away from the estate that might explain why this enitiy is suing Tidal and Londell would not have any say over it but maybe advised the family or whoever is running it to sue.

I think that would be an excellent idea to put Prince's music video's and movies on Netflix!! thumbs up!

I also thought Prince had stopped working with Londell some years ago.
It seems he's doing some good things but his overall manner troubles me. His cryptic quotes on twitter (as though we need any more mystery or surprises after April), we want transparency and authenticity from P's attorney.
Also, what kind of grown man professional constantly says "LOL" online?

So I'm assuming Universal is handling administrative stuff. Does NPG Publishing even have an staff/employees?

What's done is done, I suppose there's nothing to be done about it now. I doubt any of the family have any real interest in running a music publishing company.

I think there were 2 "NPG" companies? NPG-Music & NPG-Publishing?

Either way Llondels motives are now purely financial. To his credit he's not done anything hugely tacky. But I suppse time will tell.

We do not know how NPG publishing LLC was structured but if Londell is saying that are keeping it as an entity maybe in the future it will have staff. I would like to see the business stay in tact and all of the vault material be handled in house. I do not think the music industry has the foggiest clue what to do with that music and hearing that the family already asked engineers and musicians if they would help with the material gives me hope.
