Prince: Purple Rain: A Coloring Book by Coco Balderrama (Designed by)

Despite being one of the most influential and experimental pop-artists of our time, Prince was a figure shrouded in mystery, a shy, awkward man, his interviews almost willfully unrevealing, so little was known of his personal life. From the beginning, Prince knew exactly what he was doing and set the pattern for the rest of his career. Feisty and opinionated, Prince refused to compromise his artistic vision, producing all of his own albums from the age of 17, and pioneering change in the music industry. Prince advocated breaking down boundaries and stepping out of the mold, adopting different personae to give himself greater freedom with his music and championing sexual fluidity and equality.

After his untimely death on April 21st 2016, Prince was at the forefront of the public’s interest. His albums shot to the top of the international charts and the world’s landmarks were lit up in purple as countless fans mourned his loss.

Detailing some of the lesser known facts about his life, Prince: Purple Rain: A Coloring Book illustrates Prince’s most memorable looks. So much more than just a coloring book, each image has a history, with quotes from Prince and the people who knew and worked with him. This unique volume gives fans the opportunity to pay their own tribute, and raise their purple pencils in memory of the legendary performer that was Prince.

Prince: The Coloring Book by Darius James (Editor), Tony Millionaire

Prince said it best:

In this life
You're on your own
And if de-elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy!

. . . With crayons. Through his music, Prince inspired unrestrained joy. With contributions from both Prince’s fan-art community and professional illustrators, this Prince coloring book will be a pure expression and celebration of the joy he inspired throughout the world.

Through its Bowie and Lemmy Kilmister releases, the Feral House Coloring Books for Adults Series has already generated buzz with its underground comic sensibility and mix of established and outsider artists. Now Paisley Park will expand on its purple coloration.

-- It is tacky and the admins of his estate need to get off their ass and stop this shit. They could put out their own coloring book and make some money.

Guess what Prince would have stopped from going on sale in March and April 2017 if he was still alive. neutral

This doesn't sound like a bad idea to me...why not have a Prince coloring book. It doesn't seem disrespectful or out of line with his music or message or ideals. It's not any better or worse than a book of photos of him.

.

And I assume the estate will get their cut of the proceeds...not that I care, because they are all multi-millionaires now, including the sister that sued Prince. But I suppose they are also largely in charge of keeping Prince's legacy alive and more money helps do that, so it's good they are probably getting their cut, unless this is another bootleg item.

--- If this was not scantioned by the estate the family will not be getting any money from it. The estate has not been settled so no one is a millionaire. The sister that sued him Lorna passed away sonetime ago.

I've learned with some surprise last year that coloring has now become a hobbie for grown-ups, when my former GF showed me the mandalas coloring book she was doing to relax.

Yes, 'grown-up' colouring books seem to be quite popular. My wife has a few and finds them de-stressing. Getting her a Prince colouring book could be my best chance of converting her!

Interestingly - and ironically, maybe - colouring books are a mindfulness technique recommended for those with chronic pain conditions.

I've nothing against colouring or colouring books - they certainly have a place in the world.

.

BUT... not Prince!

.

This is very sad indeed!

.

There seems to be a crazy free-for-all at the moment. It's all out of control!

.

It's the fans that suffer. It's odd YouTube videos are being taken down, but shite like this and bootlegs are rife!

.

The family need to get their act together or pass the estate over to someone else to manage.

.

lol

This is not the average kind of colouring books, as Dibblekins said. It is the kind that is equally enjoyed by adults and children and often used as meditation / therapy technique as it allows you to get lost into a colourful moment of concentration. They are usually very detailed too. I will definitely get one.

Yes, it's become a big thing. I guess in this digital age, more and more people want to take a break from being online all the time. I have no need to do it myself, I can draw my own pictures, but it looks like a good thing to me.

I don't have a problem with the colouring books at all (of course, it would be nice if the estate was getting a wee percentage out of the use of Prince's image but, if not, well, fair play to the originators for being enterprising). I have seen just how beneficial these things can be to clients in chronic pain who need some way to manage it that isn't entirely medication-focused - so it's all good with me.
.

Given everything that may have happened with Prince, I wish he had used a colouring book instead of whatever it was he may have been using... sad

I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

My adult niece has been using these for PTSD since the category 5 tornado in Moore Ok that passed over her house. Her house received some damage, while those around her were demolished.

She had pulled her daughter out of school early that day for a dental appointment. Meanwhile the sirens went off. The school lost it's roof. She and her daughter were in a closet thinking they were going to die.

Immediately after that she told her husband (an OK native) they were installing a shelter or she would not stay there any longer. They got their shelter.

Her Amazon wish list always contains a few of these books, which I'm happy to buy for her.

I suppose if I sent her a Prince one, she'd be coloring portraits for me. wink

You mean a tornado; those tornadoes in Tornado Alley don't play.
