Who distributed HITNRUNPhase One and Two?

In iTunes there's a huge gap in Prince music. You have Come and then nothing else until AOA. Both AOA and Plectrumelectrum are listed as being under license to Warner Brothers records. But HITNRUN Phase One and Two are listed as NPG Records,Inc. So was he distributing them on his own with no record label? Is it possible that new music from the vault released in the future could come out without a major label?

Well I dug around and quickly found nothing. However, good ol' PrinceVault offered some interesting tidbits on Phase 2. It seems at one point WB had it. Wikipedia says Phase 2 was released worldwide through Universal Music Group (UMG) on May 6, 2016.

To my recall, the NewPowerSoul/Come 2 My House/GCS2000 stuff was released through NPG Records, and he sold it to big box stores directly (unless I'm missing something there, and I might be).

But the PrinceVault page has some tweets on it about HNR2, Warner, etc.

Phase one and two were Released First with jay-z's TIDAL - digital - and with the help of jay-z's roc Nation Label, the cd's were distributed with Universal, like all the roc Nation Products.

With the one cd distribution deals Prince made Since 1994 i think Nobody has the rights to made anything with the newer Material - Look at the new Prince 4ever Release from Warner... i am sure that they are Not able to put newer Material on the cd But they would Love to do so... tmbgitw, musicology, tgras, Black sweat etc. - Prince didnt Even gave the rights to Reprint the Records

Prince just gave TIDAL the rights to Stream everything (Even nps and Exodus and 1999 the new master is abailable there)

Lets face it : Prince gave a shit about clever Business moves -he was Not able to do so - we witness this since 95... and as the result of his behaviour we are Not able to buy CDs later than the Symbol Album.... no emancipation, no Rave, no nps...

You can buy that music from Tidal for download from the store. I have also found copies of Emancipation for mere pennies in used CDs store and on line. Not sure if you are a fan why you did not get them when they came out and you realize EMI folded as record lable so I would hardly Prince for Emancipation being hard to get a hold of nevermind that he probaly has some memories attached to it for him.

I bought my copy of HitnRun Phase 1 in my local store when it came out, Phase 2 I had to order from Electric Fetus and get it shipped internationally way back in February or whenever it was they were selling it. I kind of trusted them over the fan distribution which I only foresaw trouble with (which, in fairness I don't think ended up happening). I threw in an order for the Judith Hill album at the time as well which i'm kind of glad about now as its going for surprisingly high prices.

Didn't Universal or Warner or someone start distributing Phase 2 either just before or just after he died? I remember it suddenly being easy to find. (EDIT: ah, sorry, just saw trickster's post now: with the help of jay-z's roc Nation Label, the cd's were distributed with Universal, like all the roc Nation Products. - makes sense)

A lot of info on the various versions on discogs:

Yes, you can if you look and since CDs are going away you do have the option of buying the songs from the Tidsl store and importing them into I-tunes or burning them onto a cd.
