Stare

Still haven't quite got around to listening to the album but, ...

Just listened to Stare on spotify again...it's an interesting song right up until the Kiss sample. Why does this not work? I quite enjoy the idea of being marched through his history but the whole structure of the song seems to fall apart after this moment (for me).

A few reviews single this song out as a moment of mess in an otherwise decent album. It could have been a really string tune.

These are just the ramblings of a man.

It feels a bit underdeveloped to me, but I wouldn't say it falls apart. It just moves into the Sexy Dancer portion, returns to the original structure and gives us a false fade.

It's all about the bass line - which puts me in mind of Let's Work - and the lyrical motif: "First things first... Second things first... Last things last..."

I probably would have liked it more if the horns had actually done something worthy of returning from the fade, but it's still an enjoyable listen for me.
