It's just what a Prince nerd would do. Just doing something that expresses his love for Prince in front of a public crowd in an uninhibited manner. Not caring what people really think. I consider him doing this similar to Dave Grohl stopping a Foo Fighters concert to talk about how much he idolized Prince for six, seven minutes.
