Seriously, though, there's something about these lookalike performers that I have to watch through my fingers. They bring a big grey gloop of mundane reality to something that I'm trying to hold onto as my little piece of that which is magical and transcendent. It's the sense of deflatedness experienced by a wide-eyed child all set to meet 'Santa' at the local mall, who, at some point, is forcefully hit by the realisation that this is actually just some old guy that smells of gin and farts when he moves.

I have always wondered how an impersonator sees themselves on a certain level. It's a little different than being an actor.
