2017?

Has anything been said yet about how any one-year remembrances might be observed next year? I just assume there will be something happening.

I haven't seen or heard anything yet, but my guess is that in April next year the radio stations will be full of 'Sometimes It Snows In April'.
It would be great however if an album with vault material would be released on either April 21st or June 7th next year. A dvd would be very welcome too.

Excuse me, it's November 2, 2016. He's been gone 196 days. Why are you already looking forward to April 21, 2017, and the one year anniversary of him dying in an elevator by himself? Already wondering how the estate, or Paisley Park, or Londell, or Sheila, or Tyka, or Sharon, or whoever is going to set up shop, sell tickets possibly and arrange a tribute? What's wrong with today? What's wrong with celebrating the man's life and music right fucking now?

Today is all you have - go listen to 1999 or Dirty Mind. Go laugh at UTCM, or watch videos on YouTube. But stop aggrandizing his death. He died one very horrible day. He lived roughly 20,817 fantastic days. And you're concentrating one the day he died. Think about it for a minute.

There's something really wrong with that.

Um....you need to relax a little. You don't know my reasons for asking. I've celebrated Prince before and after his death to the max so I really don't need you to suggest anything except to say that you have or have not heard anything. I've been around the Org long enough to know that your response is a little uncalled for.

But since you're throwing stones for no reason......I did a documentary after his death. It was called Hometown Hero. I'd like to follow it up with a one year later premise.

Ok now can you just take your self-righteous attitude and go someplace else? Talk about trivial.....sheesh.

The real important question is what's going to happen on the fifth anniversary on April 21st, 2021.

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

Probably all kinds of things. Especially on the 1st anniversay (strange choice of words for a day remembering someone who passed away). Anyway, I think lots of tv and radio stations will give it a lot of attention.

And TrivialPursuit: about my remark on releasing new stuff on that day or June 7th next year: it might be another perspective by thinking that releasing new stuff is THE appropriate way to celebrate a man's life who wanted nothing more than create and share music. He lived music, so why not continue this legacy?
This can be seen as a celebration and maybe a gesture to the fans, not about earning dollars over a dead person.

There will be enough of that rehash and so-called exclusive re-releases in the near future of existing albums and songs, to do exactly that. This isn't about celebrating his legacy, that's about getting the money out of people's pockets

I appreciated your documentary. I hope there is something special going on, if not in April then in June on his bday. But like someone else said more than anything I just wish he would be here rather than our memories of him.

Oh, I'm great, but thanks. If you have another motive, then you should definitely state it. Otherwise, you get reactions you might not desire.

If you did a documentary, that's fantastic. I'm sure it was a great way to pay tribute and give your grief a voice. We're all searching for that in moments like this, whether with Prince, family, or friends. But if you need to follow up on it, then say so. You know, if you've been here for a bit, that fans are passionate (ergo my initial response). If you put out what you want to accomplish, these are definitely the folks you want to engage. But to just say "what do you think they're going to do in six months?" is vague, and probably wouldn't benefit your cause. Good luck on it.

And I agree with sonshine, I wish we didn't have to do this at all. I think, for me, it's why I stayed away from any 411 about the tributes from the estate, from BET, or Sheila, or the family, and memorial services, etc. I hate that there was so much confusion and that it had to be a discussion at all.

Great response. "I made a documentary in his memory and for his fans... what did you do?"

Back to your OP. I haven't heard anything yet but I can imagine it will be something big. I think many people are still in denial and shock and it was far too soon for many to begin the celebrating/reminiscing phase. I think I'll be ready after a year! If there is a concert I urge you to crowd-fund a documentary. You'll have my support and many others I can imagine!

[Edited 11/2/16 13:37pm]

You know what? I never even considered a crowd-funding option. Thanks, lopez568.
