Just getting into this song now. Eye've been listening to the album for some months but just gave Black Muse a full listen on a long drive tonight. Glad I did.

I always go to Princevault.com and look up the history then google the lyrics.

Two questions:

- What do these lyrics mean?: "...the 5th held forever will make you cry..." (what is "the 5th"? Is this a musical term or maybe he means the 5th dimension?)

- Anyone think this was written for Damaris?
I think this because he mentions UFOs, even though those lyrics are part of "1000 Light Years Away" which is attached to Black Muse on HnR Ph 2, which is the album I'm hearing it on.
Whoever written for, it's a sweet, uplifting song.
I think Prince was a good friend.

My interpretation in the lyrics was that "holding the 5th" or "pleading the 5th" was not being completely truthful or forthcoming.

Beautiful and uplifting song. I'm glad it was on the final album that he released in his lifetime. Love the UFO reference and swooshing sound effect too!

Maybe his IS he is reffering to the 5th Note, also known as the Perfect Fifth...

This morning when I woke up I realized that I LOVE "1000 Light Years Away".
(I wake up with Prince every morning and sometimes a beautiful song of his will be in my heart.)

1000 Light Years Away, the music, reminds me of something from the 60s that could've fit very well in the soundtrack for "Hair" or something the Jackson 5 did.

I love his Cosmicness... I DO believe that his Music is for THE FUTURE...
