I was being objective, darlin. You're so pretty, but the fact remains that MJ, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Justin Beiber and that ilk were marketted to be mainstream successes. P simply was only mainstream in select periods. He's clearly an acquired taste for a mature palate. No shame in that. I maintain that MJ was for the masses, like McDs...P was more like a gourmet meal prepared by a world class chef. You can get a hamburger with piping hot "bell fries" straight from the fryer so the salt sticks at McDs and eat it and enjoy it, but a hamburger prepared by Wolfgang Puck won't be everyone's cup of tea...some may even turn up their noses at the truffle fries...S'ok.

Honestly, I categorize P as a "luxury brand and " sorta mysterious and inaccessible to some, whether by $ or simply modest taste and musical intellect"...not for everyone.

I'm happy with that. cool

It funny when people call an artist who sold 100 million records not for the mainstream. If that makes you feel like hes all yours and you discovered a great secret believe what you want. And of course mj brittany spears justin beiber are marketed to hell there pop stars. As are any other artist you consider luxuary artist who has made an impact cuturally and musically. lol And you fall right into the stereotype of the worst type of prince fan pseudo-intellectual and to dumb to know it. But do you boo cool

Awww...Thanx, booboo.

I reiterate, you're so pretty. So very very very pretty. LOL

wink cool

^^ We can agree to disagree on that. What I don't like (and don't understand) is that as soon as the name Michael Jackson is mentioned on this forum, the thread turns into a heated debate about who of the two was "better". And I'm just wondering, why? Why are there always people who want to compare Prince with Jackson? Just because both were famous in the 1980s? So what? When I was young in that time, I remember Prince was always compared to Jimi Hendrix. Which makes a lot more sense, because Jimi had a lot more things in common with Prince than Michael.

It's not just here, in Michael Jackson's forums it happens the same anytime Prince comes to the conversation.

I thought the best singer of any given poll was Vladimir Putin, though I have yet to hear him perform on a stage next to his very vocal Red Army. But then he's a bit like Tony Blair's guitar isn't he? All wood and gravity with no actual power.

Honestly, when this sort of thing happens in real life it bothers me far less cuz I simply shrug and walk away.

What I don't understand is why a fan of either would deliberately go to a forum for the one then try try engage in a comparison conversation about the other. It would never occur to me to go to an MJ forum to discuss P. Never. Not only would it be rude and pointless but stoopit. Lol

But wasn't it related to the thread?
A top 100 implies someone above and someone under, and based on criterias.

I thought it was the intention of the discussion, given we stay on what an artistic advancement is, and what is a refinement of an already created expression.

But we can go all berzerk on Elvis vs. Prince, if you want to.
Just kidding.

Yeh, I thought it was just "most favourite audio recordings played back to judging panel since the wax cylinder was invented that also happen to be inside the offices of Rolling Stone magazine before printers demand a multiple of four pages to all have content on them most of them adverts for the next issue featuring reviews of audio recordings played back to judging panel since the wax cylinder was invented"

And I am unavailable to judge as I only listen to Prince and actually dislike all music that isn't Prince. It's a nihilist's soggy daydream. I genuinely don't hear melody or rhythm any more - all I hear is a combination of sinewaves and some white noise shaped like songs.
