Prince's most recent protege Natalya: In Loving Memory of Prince

Here's Natalya's beautiful video "in loving memory of Prince".

She also states:

"In November, Prince asked me to cover his song and create a visual for it. I am sharing the video that I made for him in honor of the inspiration that so many of us have found in him and through his music.
My dear friend, here it is...May you remain eternally free. (:"

In May of 2015, Prince sent out an original composition of hers via Twitter and he stated:

"COME ON, TAKE A SIP: NATALYA PHILLIPS' "GRENADINE""

Here's the music video of that beautiful song of hers that he also posted:

"Grenadine" is both haunting and beautiful. It shows us once again what great taste in music Prince had.

It's quite sad that Prince never got to see the video of the song "FREEURSELF" that he wanted her to record...

I don't really know what to make of this. She's very lovely, she can sing, the song is good, she looks free as a bird in the video, but still I can't help thinking it's all very light weight... I just can't help wondering... Who needs to free themselves? From what? And why? It just seems like another underdevelopped idea... A good idea, but it leaves me wondering, what are you really trying to say here?
And that's what Prince left us with...

I think it's very nicely done. Definitely in the spirit he intended I think. He loved stuff like this. Thanks Latin!

I watched/listened to it. I thought it was lovely and serene.....nice visuals. I think it would have made Prince very pleased.

He sure had a type. Honestly, anytime he linked to a thing and it was a beautiful woman with curly hair I pretty much turned it off immediately.

Yea, he seemed to have a thing with women with curly hair in recent years.....what's that all about? LOL lol

.

I think he was at a turning point in his life -- he was sporting his "fro", and a more natural look, and he probably was attracted to that in his women, as well.

.

What the heck do I know? I have no clue what he liked or didn't......LOL lol

Concert footage of Prince performing "FREEURSELF" live during the Piano & A Microphone tour is also featured on a giant screen during the Paisley Park Tour.

Both the song and his performance of it is PERFECT in every way.

It's no wonder that it's featured at the Paisley Park museum.

Thanks for sharing!

I think Natalya comes over as rather a sensitive soul and something of a free spirit, which I suppose fits the theme of the song nicely.

I really enjoyed her cover, and its accompanying video...though not half as much as my cat, who was sitting on my lap throughout, completely mesmerized by all those seagulls. kitty

wow...I'm not trying to be flippant here, but the meaning behind the song is obvious, and one of his more obvious ones at that. Free yourself, be what you can be. Loe yourself so others can love yourself too. that they way she sings it hit me much more than his version. I actually think many of his songs are more impactful when sung by women. This is actually quite touching.
