"Party Like It's 1908"

LOTS of Cub stuff has this on it.

Also saw a sign for Cleveland before they lost to "party like it's 1948."

Wonder if most folks are aware of the appropriation of Prince lyrics?

How is that an appropriation of Prince's lyrics? Prince never (to my knowledge) said, "Party like it's 1908."

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Since this is the Internet and I don't know if you're sarcastic or simply another troll, "appropriation" means "the action of taking something for one's own use, typically without the owner's permission."

So Prince owns, "party like it's"? Nonsense.

I vaguely recall saying at more than one time during college, that I was going to "party like it's Saturday." Did Prince steal that phrase from me? Because I said it long before the 1999 album was released.

I know isn't it? I used to weep to Ryan Adams 13 years ago, doesn't mean Taylor Swift should appear like some link farm concept because news items exist.#

.

The next thing they'll be telling me is monetization of intellectual property leads to wallpaper patterning of thought manifestations

I was watching Heroes Reborn the other day and Hiro (one of the characters) said "we're gonna party like it's 1999". It made me smile smile

that's funny because I was thinking about tiling my kitchen floor and it looks about 98cm wide, but i'm going to have to allow for the kitchen cabinets and the floor beyond - may have to cut the tiles at 99 centimetres each and allow 0.9 centimetres for the grouting, but then there's at least 2109.2 if you take in the fridge and the washing machine

Blimey, not wanting to be morbid or anything, but you could take a two dimensional spectrograph of the Sound Of Prince's Voice and map that onto X number of tile designs, in the same way you could take the sound of a kick drum and pattern it out onto a lathe for some wobbly table legs - literally turn voice into matter, like those paint mixing outlets they have now.

I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

He doesn't own it, but he originated "party like it's 1999" (afaik), or at the very least, brought it into popular usage. So if anyone uses "party like it's <insert year here>", they are most certainly referencing Prince.

You are, of course, correct; it even goes farther as many of the Cubs products say "we gonna party like it's 19__"

I didn't respond to the troll because he's "just trollin', trollin', we could have fun just trolling."

Yes, the Cubs used that phrase, and I'm sure there will be a lot more. Anytime we hear...."Party like its..........", we will always think of Prince. prince heart
