Some of those unreleased songs are pure classics and are part of music history. They are Prince's legacy and they deserve to be released.

Go on YOUTUBE you will find a tresure trove of unreaelshed songs some of which I knew about but never heard or had heard on old boots that I had. A lot of never knew exsisted. He said the best stuff was in the vault and he was not kidding. I love the silly stuff like "Eggplant" and "Billy Sunglasses" or "Wonderful Ass".

It's not a zero sum game, kids. Release BOTH live and studio.

Billy's Sunglasses is almost a spiritual experience for me.
Prince at one point is begging Lisa to lay out a scenery for the first hints of what would become the 1988 Blue Angel playing style. Pretty abstract.

Wonderful Ass is incredible. The hi-hat programming alone. I mean, just that intro. But then you have the squashy synth, the funny coda, and then the rythm guitar comes in. It has an incredible guitar solo, with the same effect found in Shortberry Strawcake, another (somewhat) obscure masterpiece.

After hearing the astounding vocal performance on "Come Elektra Tuesday", it becomes even more indisputable that 1986 is an absolute state of grace. During one year, he's Brian Wilson, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Lennon/McCartney, Hendrix, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan and Marvin Gaye, all at once.
Every year yields something interesting, but 1986 is really puzzling, in terms... of everything.

As you said, inevitably there will be choices made. As you pointed out, we're not aware at this time of any kind of definitive blueprint left by Prince on how to handle - short of that, there will be some manner of artistic input by outside parties.

I think we're agreeing here. As far as artistic input, I meant "augmenting"/"updating"/"finishing" tracks by whomever. I'm fine with choices (that are artistic in themselves as well, I agree) about which tracks to add to which release, but I don't want any other tracks that sound "unfinished" to someones ears to get additions. Even if it works out like, for instance, Da Bourgeoisie, where I like the added horns. Those choices were and are Prince's to make, afaic. Since he's dead, no changes to the tracks anymore please.

That would be so hard... There is WB/NGP records on the one hand... what would be a good name for fan releases? In following the Elvis example (and the Graceland people are already running the Paisley Park museum), you could imagine Dream Factory Records.

But to me, the only appropriate name would be Paisley Park Records, of course. I'd even be ok with them only selling them at Paisley Park. I'm sure us fans could set up a distribution scheme that works and would be as much a labour of love as getting the albums out correctly.
