Exodus VS Goldnigga

I love "Exodus" . the exodus has begun, hallucination rain, count the days are all great .I wish it was released with just prince lead vocals .But other than "call the law" I have never heard any songs from the "Goldnigga" album .which album is better? And what songs on Goldnigga are considered best?

Completely different albums, both marred by poor vocals and annoying segues... But if you remove those, you're left with some great music. I avoided Goldnigga until very recently, as I'm not a fan of hip hop -or whatever that album is-, but I quite enjoy the jazzy feeling of some of the songs. I think Exodus is the better album, though. A segue-free version with Prince in vocals would be amazing...

^ ^ ^ ^ Co-sign on the annoying segues. Goldnigga is his attempt at hip-hop or rap, because it's infected with Tony M. There are a few good tracks on there, though. Exodus, minus the segues, is pure funk fun. It's superior to all three NPG albums, with NewPowerSoul being second place. I don't mind Sonny's vocals on some things. Prince is on it plenty.

If you like the sound of the NPG band, then you really should do your best to beg, borrow or steal a copy of Goldnigga, preferably the original pressing that had Guess Who's Knocking on it. It's the only NPG album where you can actually hear the band play. As for the segues, they're just short instrumental pieces; it's nothing like the blabla that ruins Exodus. Goldnigga is mostly raps (by Tony M) and instrumentals, but it does show the sound of the band. Black MF In the House, 2Gether, Johnny and Call the Law were played live on a regular basis in 1992-93.

they are both pretty good .. tony m at his least annoying .. band tight as a muthafuher .. goldnigga feels to me like an extension of the original Time concept .. like morris fell on some hard times and had to do some things he didn't feel too good about and now he is the tony m character playing smoothe rnb funk ... exodus has awesome segues ... hallucination rain and exodus has begun dont really do it for me but trim that baby down to a cool 45 minutes and its a pretty great prince pfunk tribute record, again with the Time concept extension .. a little angrier .. but still a fine pop nostalgic tune for the ladies and some dark angry brooding funk for the dudes .. i enjoy both of these far more than say rainbow children or 3121 .. while prince songwriting slacked a little during both albums, the band more than makes up for it .. especially on goldnigga ..

Not sure if they are the best, just a few i like

Oilcan - a short instumentL madhouse style segue

Goldnigga - not too bad

Johnny - prince on vocals!!. its great.. but drags on after 4,5 minutes lol

golides paradise - as i recall its an instrumental

Id pick exoduse over goldnigga. I own a phisical copy of GN.

But only a digital copy of Exodus.

Both albums are rather short if u remove all the sueges

Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow
I will take my place, In the great below

I love them both. I really liked that live band sound with horns around Symbol/Goldnigga and bits of The Vault. Deuce & A Quarter, 2gether, Goldnigga and Johnny are my top picks.

.

Saying that Exodus is the better of the two. One of my favourite P albums. Hallucination Rain, The Good Life, The Exodus Has Begun - yes motherfugga yes. The segues are funny but could have dropped them for Mad or Funky Design

Exodus is way more satisfying for me, but Goldnigga has a lot to like too - If you like the band sound on Diamonds & Pearls and prince you will definately like Goldnigga too, it slots right in.

Exodus is really good. I skip all the segues. I really like that album. The only song I listen to on Goldnigga is "Johnny." That said, I like "Johnny" A LOT.

'Johnny' is amazing. I didn't have the album in my phone until a few months ago, and one day, playing all my music on shuffle mode it came on. I couldn't believe how much I liked it!

GoldNigga and Kamasutra are the only two albums not available on Tidal.

Anybody have any idea why GN is not there? My first thought was that Prince withheld it for language/topic reasons (JW). To me, it comes across as far darker than The Black Album (which he said he pulled initially because it was too dark). But I wonder if it could be more of legal issue with this being NPG, not Prince?

Oh - I just assume the release on Tidal on 06/07 of the additional albums was already part of the contract Prince signed with them, because it was too fast for the estate to have done anything. Just as Prince had all these vinyl re-releases planned before his death. Apologies for diverting the thread.

I have no way of knowing why it wasn't made available yet, but I don't look at GN as a "dark" album by any means. If anything, it still holds up today, considering the topics Tony M. rapped about (racism, police brutality, gang violence, and the crooked aspects of the industry). So, I see that as more of a reason for him to have put it out there. There had to have been some other obstacle in the way. And then, it wouldn't have been a complete Prince production without the occassional playfulness and "battle" between Sex & Spirituality.I love em both, but I give the nod to Gold Nigga. I'm a part of the minority that enjoyed Tony M's contributions to the NPG lol.

But Kamasutra *is* available on Tidal. How weird that Gold Nigga isn't!

I hope Tidal gets it soon - I want to listen to it so bad now! I had pretty much decided I wouldn't but now with so many proponents on here I better scour eBay for a few months hahaha

Wow! I hadn't seen it before, and assumed he left it off for a reason.

Thanks for the correction!

It's totally cool! Honestly the tidal format is so strange - it's a site that isn't very intuitive so it's easy to miss a whole lot of stuff. Plus, why would they not have a related artists area near the Prince page - for Prince it's almost a must with so much music he made with others/for others.

.

Tidal is a mess - but I love what Prince made availble thru Tidal.
