Prince Handwritten Love Letter, 1977

“You are a very beautiful woman. By now, that must sound very cliché to you, but you must understand that you have never heard it from my lips before. … As of right now I live in Los Angeles. I am going to move soon. Where – I haven’t decided. I think I would like to live everwhere before I die.” - Prince, 1977

A Prince handwritten love letter. Written in pencil on four pages of lined yellow notebook paper. The letter is written to “Marianne” and reads in part, “You are a very beautiful woman. By now, that must sound very cliché to you, but you must understand that you have never heard it from my lips before. … As of right now I live in Los Angeles. I am going to move soon. Where – I haven’t decided. I think I would like to live everwhere before I die.” Prince signed off on the letter “Je Taime [sic], Beaucoup, Prince” with a heart in place of the tittle above the “i.” Other parts of the letter explain Prince’s attraction to the woman and his desire to spend more time with her. Marianne was a young woman Prince met in Minneapolis who says she never did write Prince back. They encountered each other on a few occasions around their shared hometown but, by then, she had a boyfriend. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope written in Prince’s hand with embellished letters. (tumblr)

PRINCE Original Demo Recording

A vintage ¼-inch magnetic tape recording of three early songs by Prince. The recording was produced circa 1976-1977 at Sound80 studio in Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and sent out as a demo to various record labels in order to draw attention to Prince’s musical talent. The subsequent publicity lead to a contract with Warner Brothers. The three songs on the recording are “Just as Long as We’re Together,” “My Love Is Forever,” and “Jelly Jam.” After receiving his contract, the first two songs were re-recorded and released on Prince’s debut album For You (Warner Bros., 1978) with the last song being modified and added as a coda to the first song. The reel is housed in a vintage Sound80 studio brand box. Prince wrote his name and the titles of each song on the verso of the box, dotting the “I” in his name with a heart and altering the “W” in the first track to look like a pair of breasts. Also present are production notes and a credit to audio engineer David Rivkin. (tumblr)

A Day With Apollonia

A pair of Prince’s notebook pages with working lyrics for the song “Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian.” On the back of the second page Prince has drawn a humorous cartoon of himself at a piano swearing and an image of a woman at a microphone saying “Sorry.” The cartoon is titled “A Day With Apollonia.” The lyrics are written in pencil and pen on lined paper. They come from a notebook Prince left behind at the St. Paul Civic Center. Prince had rented out the venue for rehearsals in preparation for the Purple Rain Tour. (tumblr)

Purple Rain Script

A script for the film Purple Rain (1984) used by Apollonia Kotero’s body double. The title page of the script reads “Purple Rain/ Screenplay by Albert Magnoli/ Formerly Dreams by William Blinn,” additionally labeled as a first draft and dated August 29, 1983. The script includes the character Vanity, in place of Apollonia, as Prince’s love interest. Housed in a blue paper cover, the script contains a number of revision pages and an alternate film ending. This version of the script was largely returned by the cast. When the body double asked if she should return her copy, Prince told her to keep it. (tumblr)

Prince Stage Worn Lace Glove, 1985

A Prince stage worn white lace right-hand glove with rhinestone embellishment. The glove was obtained by a concert attendee at the February 3, 1985, Birmingham, Alabama, concert that was part of Prince’s Purple Rain Tour.

The glove, presumed to have been designed by Marie France, is made of white floral lace fabric and has a ruffle hem. Attached at the wrist is a bracelet-style rhinestone embellishment sewn onto the glove with two multi-stone circular features. This bracelet detail is typical of the glove embellishments worn by Prince throughout his Purple Rain period.

I've noticed that before, he seemed to have had more one than one writing style, this can be seen on the demo recording titles for example. Many people change their writing depending on the situation/purpose (I do too), but there is still a consistency in the way some letters are shaped, the curving style and the angle at which the letters and overall text are leaning. if anything, I think the caricatured face is not his drawing, but that is just my random guess.

"A page of Prince original handwritten working lyrics for the unreleased song “I Hope We Work It Out.” Written on lined yellow paper with Prince’s embellishments in the title of the song, using hearts as quotation marks and drawing the outline of a woman in the “W” of “We” and nipples in the “W” of “Work.” He has signed the lyrics “Prince” at the bottom of the page. Additionally, numeric notations are on the bottom of the page. The song was written at the suggestion of audio engineer David Rivkin and was played at a private luncheon when Prince flew to California to sign his contract with Warner Brothers. The song was Prince’s personal thank you to Warner Brothers. It includes the lines “Makin’ music naturally, Me and W.B./ Music for the young and old, music bound to be gold.” The Prince Vault website states that this song was recorded at Sound80 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1977. Additionally numeric notations on the bottom of the page.

A portion of the net proceeds of this item to the seller will be donated to the nonprofit: Our House LA's Camp Erin for Grieving Children.

What you have just posted is the same as the one already posted higher up (#3). It was put up for auction on ebay earlier this year, with some additional - close up - photos of it, here is one of them. I too find it very moving.

The floor plan is interesting and I don't usually see Prince misspell words: basment and hamar (which I assume means hammer). I also liked the "Pick up fishing pole". biggrin If he worked out those plans himself he's got many talents indeed.

I thought they met at the AMAs on Jaunary 25, 1982 but this pre-dates that?
