So there must be some bad reviews of those shows? Or at least plenty of comments about how he looked ill? All the reviews I read said he looked great. I saw him live in 2014 and he was full of energy as always.

I saw him in 2014 at the Essence Festival and he looked fine then, but several months later, towards the end of 2014, he looked like he had aged a bit. I thought not much of it because after all he was in his mid 50's. After that, he seemed to be aging quicker than one would expect. I felt that something was not quite right with him. During the Arsenio Hall interview, he seemed alert and he answered questions rationally, but I had a sense there was something distant about him. The same for the SNL anniversary performance.

I saw him April 2015 in Detroit. I didn't have great seats but he moved with energy and sang with emotion.

The afro in later years really didn't do him any justice as far as looking healthy - more to the point, the larger hairstyle really made his tiny frame look even tinier.

👆🏻This. I wonder if we'd think differently he had the same hairstyle as 2010-2011. He was pretty skinny in 2009 as well as times during the 90s. The first time I really thought he didn't look great was the American Music Awards in November 2015. I thought he looked fine at the Grammys, other than the big fro and very little makeup making him look older. I thought he sounded perfectly fine on Arsenio and all these awards shows. Even knowing what I know now when I go back and watch that interview nothing seems odd to me.

Interesting article from the Guardian which may explain the LLC...

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/oct/24/gett-off-why-princes-archive-is-an-act-of-defiance-against-pop-industry-capitalism

The Guardian Said:

It was David Bowie who, in 1997, first understood that technology might be about to disrupt the old pattern. In a pioneering financial arrangement, Bowie securitised the projected income on his already-published music – meaning he took a loan of $55m (then £33m) against his future royalties, in return for 8% annual interest over 10 years. His motivation was that, with the arrival of the internet, royalties on recorded music would probably diminish – so better to get them sooner rather than later.

It’s known that Prince consulted David Pullman, who designed the so-called Bowie bond, not long after Bowie’s deal was publicised. Pullman has told reporters he thinks Prince’s unsold songs might be worth up to $100m. But there was no “Prince bond”. Prince’s estate seems likely to trickle out the material over several years, extracting maximum value not just from the music but from his image.

If so, in addition to inventing an entire musical genre, Prince may go down as the inventor of post-death capitalism. He turned the logic of the Bowie bond on its head and did something far more interesting.

For an economy based increasingly on intellectual property, copyright laws are crucial. The conglomerates who own the major music and movie studios have, over time, managed to extend the life of copyright to – in the US – life plus 70 years. If the creator is a “corporate body”, the term extends to 120 years from the creation date. But what if I am a corporate body who intends to publish my work at a later date? And how can corporate bodies “die”?

Copyright law on unpublished stuff generally relates to archives – notes, diaries, rough drafts, early scripts – in analogue form. But who is to say whether Prince, meandering through a solo song called Good Dick and a Job in 1995, meant this as a first draft or a finished work? He “premiered” the recording at a party on 19 May 1995 but never performed it live.

I just came across this article and then came right to the org to see how everyone reads thes. It makes so much more sense than those who think Prince somehow overlooked creating a will. As though it was an oversight.

Of course he would put something in place that would disrupt convention smile

BUT, who 'owns' the LLC? It looks like Phaedra Ellis Lamkins is listed as active Member (not that this site is the most up to date...)

And in checking the Link yo9u have provided it seems that Phaedra is now working EXCLUSIVELY for ONE Company smile

Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins Overview

Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins has been associated with three companies, according to public records. The companies were formed over a six year period with the most recent being incorporated two years ago in March of 2014. One of the companies is still active while the remaining two are now listed as inactive.

I think Prince might have put her in this position as just reward for the Fight she put up on his behalf

I have to say I am feeling somehow very relieved

Paul Mason has to be congratulated here and I've done my best to effect it at The Guardian. I don't know he's privy to any of the more reasoned discussion on The Org but certainly those here engaged in reasoning rather than bickering will recognise that he's made more than a logical leap.
He's not suggesting that he's got prince's number on it all but he is the only person in the media to have started with the precept that Prince does things defiantly, which is the key to solving his 'mysteries'.

However, to appear unreasoned now to some, I have to say, having studied all of the garbage and the gold of the past 6 months in recent weeks (having ignored it mostly in the aftermath while it was fermenting), I have come to an 'interim conclusion' that two theories on Prince's April 2016 are closer to the truth than all others.

1. That Prince prepared himself for an exit (death)

2. That Prince prepared himself for an exit (disapearance)

Now the second option is my preferred and I admit to an emotional/intuitive element in preferring it.
Quite simply, I didn't 'feel' Prince die. I acknowledge I have exited reason with that and am interested in a one-off web page I can no longer locate where someone (in response to 'The Illuminati Killed Him' stuff) speculated that he might have set up the scene at Paisley Park. The mechanics of how he could be certified dead without his body are difficult in this but certainly not impossible. It is, of course, a conspiracy theory and I will retreat from preventing it as a serious proposition.

Which leaves me with 1.
Prince had foreknowledge of impending death or a death wish.

I have concluded down to 1. as most likely because it condenses most other theories and accords with most events around the estate-planning. The lack of will was never a red herring for me. A will is the 'high street' or 'shopping mall' version of estate planning. When people can't believe he didn't have a will it;s because they've swallowed the marketing message that 'You Need A Will To Protect Your Legacy'.

Paul Mason is simply pointing out that Prince wouldn't have gone for a shopping mall approach not was he looking for a shopping mall result.

I know people are all emotional and stuff but one way or another, Prince was in control of his exit. It may have come suddenly, it might have come by mistake, foul play, purposefully but the mofo knew it was coming. That's the Prince I knew: complex and cunning. Not the new simplified post-death 'saint' that, like John Lennon, he's being made into and which will eventually start to grate unless people catch a hold of their enthusiasm for saints.

-- The problem with wills is that they can be contested. Read about James Brown or Ray Charles both had wills that were contested for over a decade. A trust of the LLC or very good ways to keep assets out of probate. It is possible that some portion of P's assests are in a trust. Trust don't have to go through the court and assets that move over in a LLC to other owners or even to a trust or institution would not be effected by probate. Right now the only thing we know is that some of his real estate is being sold. We don't know anything else about other assests outside of NPG records continuing operate while the probate is going on. Wonder why that is happening?

Yes, wills can be contested. But they still make things easier than not having one at all.

-- A trust is better or this LLC transaction. No courts, media or people in your business. Come on Prince had a child and the public did not know anything for months and we only found out the child's name recently. He had his divorce records sealed. He donated millions to charities with no one knowing he was doing it. He was super slick about keeping things off the radar.

^ But had he had a will, he could have specified what happens to the profits from NPGMusic.

Having the LLC simply allowed him to control what happened with his music. It also extended his copyright to 120 years... Similar to what the big record labels do in order to control the music they "own".

You can do the same with an LLC or a trust. I am not going to rehash everything already stated about the use of LLC and trust to avoid probate. If Prince left a will trust me someone would have been contesting it and if he willed the music rights to anyone they would be free to sell it. So far the only thing problem claim is the spawn of Duane so we are really talking about two lone people who can be paid off, denied, or made heirs. Two people is not really that bad and the Judge has stated he will move quickly to make a decision. In the meantime the estate is moving forward with monetizing.

Well ownership can transfer over after death to a corporation, trust or an institution. So the other members ( shareholders not really the correct term) of the LLC may not be owners but may still have an interest in the LLC. What I find interesting and what we don't know is what else is in the LLC ? Are other properties besides the Purple Rain house in the LLC? Other publishing companies, It appears Funk4U.com is a part of it. It this assest don't get sold off or are not listed in the final accounting we will have a little bit of a clue however fiancials transactions are being sealed by the court so we may never know.

When Prince released HNR2, he went on twitter to look for fans to buy the CDs in bulk and re-sell to other fans. Funk4U was one of the fans that set up an online store to sell the CD. There were a bunch of fans doing this, but Funk4U was probably the most prominent. Funk4U also took preorders for the tour program before Prince died, and had to go through Bremer afterward to get the stock to fulfill the orders.

Here's Funk4U's twitter account. If you go back to January and February, you can see how things unfolded... https://twitter.com/3121TV
