Memorial Statue for Prince

The memory of Glenn Frey & Lemmy has recently been honored with crowd-funded statues. What's stopping us from organizing to do the same for Prince?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/fans-crowdfund-lemmy-statue-sunset-094602519.html

Independent of his beavershit crazy family, & giving a chance to the many of us who cannot attend various memorial concerts due to the distance & expense, what would it take to get a statue erected near First Avenue or someplace equally representative of Prince's legacy?

In addition to a statue, the Glenn Frey memorial (on a corner in Winslow Arizona), offers those interested the chance to donate a memorial brick which they can use to leave a personal message. Think of the good those proceeds might do, if directed to a children's charity, to benefit musical education, the BLM movement or some other worthy cause?

Why don't you start a petition? Those always work. nod

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

That is a fantastic idea! The hard part will be, picking out the one we want. There are so many fantastic poses of Prince.

Great idea!! I fully support it.

I love that large mural of Bob Dylan in downtown Minneapolis. wish there was one that size for Prince.

But I love the statue idea!!

Fantastic idea. I'd support that. Anyone have ideas and which iconic pose, photo etc should be used? Personally I'd like to see something more "recent" than a cliched Purple Rain statue. Super Bowl Prince maybe.

Great idea.

Could also try and get them to rename the road Paisley Park is on or a road near first avenue to Alphabet Street.

I would imagine that someone local might be best equipped to approach any city officials. I've only been to MPLS once (in 2015) & can't quite remember, but perhaps there's a median, plaza or other plot of land approaching First Avenue where a statue could be placed? Or, if in addition to a statue, they renamed a portion of the road Prince Street?

The Glenn Frey statue cost only $22k, & was funded, in part, by two local radio personalities.
