From The Soundboard: Roseland Ball & The Palladium NYC, 1994

NO TROLL THREADS! NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not. Posting Prince and associated artist videos from sites such as YouTube is also not allowed. Posts of this nature will be deleted and repeat offenders will be first warned, and then banned. Troll threads, fake tracklists, and attention seeking rumor threads will be also be swiftly dealt with. These rules are strictly enforced!

************************************

Surely these deserve heir own discussion threads? (Seriously, mods).

So... These are quite nice surprises to have at a time when there have been many surprises.

One thing I'm not quite understanding on these though are the mixes? Particularly the Roseland show - it almost sounds like 4DaFunk had the instrumentals recordings and then overdubbed an ameture recording to get the vocals? This is literally the only conclusion I can come to regarding the sound quality.

The Palladium show is beter in hearing things - although the vocals are still low and it's not one of Prince's best performances.

Anyone have insight?

I like his rendition of Shhh... from the Palladium show. It is one of my favorite versions of that song.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

That's kinda the nature of some soundboards and why they will never replace an actual officially mixed/eq'd live release. The various instruments are mic'd and mixed at the board so the house sounds good, but good sound obviously isnt what always comes in, especially in big venues. What comes in is what sometimes gets booted & released as a soundboard. Other times, what gets mixed and sent out to the house gets recorded and bootlegged.

I'm aware of how generic soundboard recordings sound.

I have never heard ones mixed like this. And if a vocal is barely audible in the mix - it's not going to be audiblbe in the theatre, unless it's an opera or a play.

I'm listening to Roseland and it sounds like a typical soundboard to me. Vocals don't seem any different than I'm used to, maybe a little lower perhaps but nothing extreme. The pre-recorded backing vocals and parts are louder than P's at times but besides that.... I'm not hearing what you're saying. The Palladium has some obvious audience recordings but they're listed as such.

Could be the backing tracks alongside the band? Days Of Wild struck me as weird sounding at the beginning. I just put it down to that.

Yeah, it's the backing tracks. I just hit TMBGITW and I see what Blue was saying. It sounds like this is a pre-mix dump (what came into the board before it was leveled/eq'd and sent to the house.)

I think he/she is including The Hallucination Soundcheck as the 3rd from NY as I believe that is from the Roseland Ballroom. And is probably my favourite leak/release from the last week or so.
.
The Glam Slam LA Encore (Peach) has the best sound to me.

Oh man - what a great era - glorious I bet. Is Come in the setlist? I've never heard a live version and I love what I've seen of that era on say, youtube, etc.

I really don't know why Prince didn't make more live dates available. I just wish he did it like Fugazi did - all recorded and available for sale thru their site. I can't even fathom some of the music I'm missing out on.

I suppose it does make it sort of legendary to me, which is cool - but I'd rather be able to hit up AMazon and put on my headphones, you know? He was so prolific as a live artist - I don't understand why he wouldn't have released more live stuff.

It's the FBG release. It's not the complete show. Great though, you need it.

I have only listened to the Palladium so far and yes the vocals are low - I hope they were not that low for the concert goers? But I am loving it so much - to have something from this era - I cannot wait to hear the other one when I get some time to spare to myself. Thank you to the Purple Fairies for dropping these gems from heaven biggrin

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜
