Tower Records in Tokyo

In town for a few days. Very nice tribute/memorial on display. Who knew you can still buy CDs... they even have some rare merch for sale, too.

Nice pics smile
I live in Tokyo, where People still buy CDs. I haven't been to record stores since April though sad
They also temporarily changed the color of the plastic bags to purple some while ago.

Tokyo is on my bucket list!
Prince played there many times and the tribute they did at Tower Records was great. I've seen some pics on Facebook. I wouldn't mind one of those bags! Japan loved him!

Nice find. I think they posted pictures on twitter of that same store a few days after he passed away. They had a lot of enlarged pictures of the cartoon-prince. It was very cool.

Fixed the photos. Had some challenges while mobile. Great being in a music store that was selling real merchandise, with passion. Some interesting stuff on the shelf.

Hi Funk! I was at the Tower mini store in the Shiodome yesterday and yes they had Prince stuff too. Wanted to spend some time, maybe get a CD...but the hubby was impatient!! I'll find the bigger store and spend some time there remeniscing. I have sweated my bum off here!!

I'm heading over in a couple of weeks to stay for a few months - LadyLayla any suggestions on good shops for rare P vinyl, or just P vinyl in general

Konichiwa! The heat and humidity were amazing. The air conditioning at Tower Records' Shibuya location was a welcome relief. I saw the mini Tower store at Tokyo station. I highly recommend the Shibuya location. R&B / Dance is on the 6th floor. I'm sure it's not easy being dragged to record stores by music collectors (like us) but the promise of air conditioning helps. smile

Indeed(2) - How cool is it they are (more) prominently displaying his new material? Not pictured - they also included the new CD by "King" (girl group trio) and other similar acts, near his display. The display was clearly made by a fan/follower.

Hajimemashite jstar! I did finally get to make the pilgrimage to the Tower Store in Shibuya but alas as Funk so masterfully pointed out, those of us serious music collectors are sometimes paired with those who don't share our interest. And the AC was welcome Funk, but not enough to let me bask in the glory of a wrecka stow!

The 6th floor as Funk pointed out was R&B and I could have spent days looking. Oh and some of Prince's earlier releases were (Purple Rain, Controversy and Dirty Mind) on cassette.

Sorry I could not help any more than that! Hopefully the weather will be somewhat cooler for you. I LOVE Tokyo and hope you enjoy your stay. I will be back at end of December....son is in university near Tokyo
