I don't know what happened to that other thread, I jumped in somewhere on page 38 and stopped reading after page 43 or so.

What made you think that? I made ONE reply on a thread that ran for more than 40 pages. And as for my reply to CalhounSquare's post, it was a joke. You know, I actually do think this would be an interesting discussion, but all the ladies are already going "oh oh, men don't want us to talk about sex" while I never saw any male orger saying that. So I realized that trying to have a discussion was pointlesss, so I might as well make some jokes.

Right, so you didn't see it, and therefore it didn't happen? Do you think that if you're starting from the position that our perception is wrong because it doesn't conform to yours, then maybe the pointlessness of the discussion isn't all our doing? I mean, you could try to understand why we might be perceiving it that way couldn't you? What a crazy idea.

Not like I love my guitar....

Your one post sure got quoted a lot.

I thought that maybe they got a lot of complaints from family members and/or Jehovah's Witnesses.

.

I don't think that Bonatoc's arguments were very persuasive, so I figured it was based on more than a few complaints from more than a few people.

What do you think?

Dunno. I did think Bonatoc had a few good things to say. He and I were basically in agreement on one thing: talk about sexuality all you want, but "Prince in the bedroom" makes it a little too personal. It seemed (and notice that I say seemed) as if a lot of people here find Prince's sex life more important than his music. That's what I wanted to say and I said it. And yes, it seems like I touched a nerve there. So what can I do? As I said before, I'll say what I want to say and you can say whatever you want to say about that. As George Clinton said, censorship is far worse than anything anybody might have to say. I was a little surprised that all the ladies were getting so worked up about my little post, I felt like a little male spider ina web full of black widows. wink But that ain't gonna stop me.

Prince was straight. Loved fat or curvy ladies, had a stocking and bath fetishes, preferred curly to straight hair and tanned to pale skin. He was BDSM positive - I'd say he was a switch, so he liked to dominate someone else as well as being dominated. I think he was into ropes and scarves (1000 Xs and 0s, anyone?), pet play (pussy) and some SM, too.

Agreed. I always wondered if anyone had also thought about if he was into that stuff too. I don't think it was at the forefront of his sexuality (he seemed way too traditionally romantic with the whole flowers and candles stuff), but it was defo an aspect I think.

What happened was that we were sold out. All they had to do was snip the sexist personal attacks that bonatoc made toward several female members such as this one. Other guys made comments but he was the only one distrupting the thread. There was no reason to delete it.

Instead of just snipping the comment where he made referencec to her "smelly tambourine," and other hateful things that he said, they used it as an excuse to delete the thread.

Hahahahahaha, and there you go again setting me off lol I'm just a bit older than Prince, but I've got to tell you that I NEVER ever thought I'd see the day when younger people were more prudish, especially in regards to sexual matters, than many older folks are! Must just have been the time we grew up in lol

I don't think that's it.

Pop songs are still raunchy. Nikki Minaj is talking about some dude tossing her salad.

[This is just about America, so ymmv]:

You know, there's definitely more mainstreaming of porn and it's more easily accessible than it was back in the 1980s or even pre-ubiquitous internet. But at the same time there is less comprehensive sex ed then there was when I was younger. Sex ed was abstinence plus. Now a lot of sex ed classes are churchy slut shaming lectures, apparently.

So you get situations like this (so NSFW):

Hmmmm.... Prince's sex life and his use of sexuality juxtaposed against God... FUELED his music - Princes music is about Prince in the bedroom. EVEN WHEN HE PUT HIS CLOTHES ON.

::clutches pearls::

Why do a bunch of dudes think that they can police what a bunch of women think about Princes music?

Princes music has always been aimed RIGHT AT THE VAGINA. By his own design. So if some people don't like what we're saying about it - its really not for you to decide how we can feel about Prince, his music, his sexuality - or how we express ourselves about it.

You can't separate his music from his sexuality and if you do - you're ignoring 2/3s of Princes work.

DO YOU THIK PRINCE SIMPLY FORGOT TO WEAR A DANCE BELT FOR 30 YEARS? lololol um, no.

To think that Prince could control everything else, yet somehow ---- he forgot.... he might flash some peen. No - he knew exactly what he was doing - There were no mistakes in the images Prince created - so clutching your pearls about them now is silly.

P.s.: Why can't Prince's music and his sexuality be appreciated? Thinking it has to be one or the other seems a bit short-sighted, especially given the artist in question. And if there have been threads on Prince's "women" and they were allowed to exist and thrive, then yes, we are talking about straight up sexist management.

Following what Terriq has said upthread about this, I actually really do want to know if you seriously think you can make this distinction between sex and music when it comes to Prince. We mostly weren't discussing his sex life - we don't know shit about it - we were mostly just expressing our appreciation of his unsurpassed sexiness...and yes we can giggle about gifs of his dick (why the hell not)...but its not really the issue, because as she says, the sex is in the music. Prince knew this...he knew his guitar sounded and felt like a woman coming...and that's what he wanted it to sound like, he did it, deliberately. Do you not hear it? Do you not understand what we are responding to? It's all the same thing, the groove, the grinding, the gasping and panting and groaning and shreiking, the come faces, the fucking guitar stands, the hip chain, the leaving his packet on full display his entire career, the never ending guitar climaxes, the ecstatic orgasmic funk...it's all completely soaked in sex, every note, every groove, every shred, every move he ever made...all of it. We don't need to see the images...the music does exactly the same thing to us...the gifs are just a bonus and a way for us to share with each other...but the idea that what we're doing is distracting from the music by focusing on sex is absurd...maybe this is just how we communicate with each other about our experience of the music...and our experience of the music is that it designed to get us as hot as all hell and it delivers. And maybe you don't get that, maybe it is different for you...when I listen to men talk about P's music, I do hear something very different...and that's fine, I don't go around sending Peach and Black irate letters saying that they're missing the sex of it and so they should stop...they're talking about what speaks to them, and we're talking about what speaks to us...and what we're trying to say is that Prince was speaking to us, and he knew exactly what he was doing, and he knew exactly what effect it had on us, and he loved it, and so did we...and you don't get to police that, or tell us that we're doing it wrong, and you don't get to interject yourself between us and Prince when we know full well that we are understanding him perfectly, and the fact that you think you do get to do that is because you're a man and we're women, and so you're used to thinking that what you experience about something is more valid or true than what we experience, and us, and Prince, are like, fuck that noise.

Yes, it can be high-minded and it can be profane and it can be funny. It can be all of those things and it was quite fairly marked as explicit.

the choice to enter and be offendoned is ones own choice. Censoring it was a direct result of someone thinking their judgement was correct - meanwhile the flat earth thread in GD lives on!

I mean at least Prince can be scientifically proven as sexy. Meanwhile THE EARTH IS NOT FLAT. Thats proven - and that thread is offensive in its disregard for reality.

But dear God no - dont talk about Princes penis. Or what he might do with it. But please do feel free to promote your flat earth.

eek lol
