it was but in retrospect, you see him learn and overcome all that crap. he really grew a lot from it, he was forced to if he wanted a career in "mainstream" music (as opposed to "Black" music) it is disgusting to know that sort of horrible behavior was accepted, perhaps, even encouraged by the music society back then.
