Love Thy Will Be Done - Prince or Martika - Which version is loved the most?

Love Thy Will Be Done is a wonderful gem sung by both Prince and Martika.

Which version do u prefer the most?

They are both powerful and awesome.

Let's share our love for both versions!

I believe I prefer Martika's version. I enjoy the raw emotion of Prince's, but it is a bit too scratch-vocally for my tastes.

.

P's cover of 'What If God Was One of Us' was also a good reuse of the haunting (largly Roland D-50) instrumentation.

Prince - this is not martika.org.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Good question - I think Prince's version is a little too much falsetto, but it's PRINCE so he should get the nod for his own song. I wonder if there's another version of his vocal, since I always assumed the version I've heard with him on vocals is a "guide track" for Martika? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Either singer though, I prefer the extended version.

The Sound quality on the Prince version isn't the best so until I get to hear a clean version i'll go with Martika's version.

I listened to the Martika's Kitchen album today for the first time in many many years as I found it on Tidal and really quite enjoyed it. I had previously dismissed it as far to corny and light weight but in fact there is some great pop music on there.

I still find it a little corny at times but stuff like A Magical Place,Cloured Kisses and Pride and Prejudice were highly enjoyable.

It is a guide vocal, although a well-developed one (backing ones left in the mix on the MK version). This song was never (even initially) intended for his own use, unlike many earlier tracks on associated artists' albums.

Unpopular opinion: New Power Generation's version, which has a more rock edge. It's more uplifting and stronger.

This was done several years after the official release.

I'll listen and share but on the flip side What if God Was one of us is a favorite sung by Nicolette Sheridan I enjoy all her music however, I was happy when prince did the cover he make it his own and it was beautiful....so unbeliviable he has passed I like many looked forward to all his music and concerts....he is loved...for real. 😇

I'm going with Martika's, but mainly because I never considered Prince's version "his" version, but rather, as imprimis said, a guide for her. If Prince has recorded his own version, with the intention of releasing it, I'm sure I'd go for that one!

Amazing song in any case.

Not unpopular with me! Love that version.

The live performances with that amazing Michael B segway from We March plus the huge guitar solos between verses makes it an ecstatic classic.

Imagine being at a concert and then.. prince had used the music of this as the backing track for One of Us in concert during his 1996/97 tours. So when I heared this intro in Rotterdam in 1998, I though he was going to sing One of Us. But no, he actually sang the original! The fact that he played Love... Thy Will Be Done live is enough to make me love his version. An absolutely beautiful song.

Obviously the Martika version is more finished; the only Prince one I've heard wasn't quite as pristine and polished; it being a demo and all.
