PRINCE THE 80'S ICON (only)?

Just about everything you read on him is ONLY based on the 80's.Do newspapers and magazines and reporters think he stopped everything after 89?I noticed a lot of this prior to his death. But,much, much more now since his death.WHY IS THIS?It pisses me off.

I do think that most people think the 80's was Prince's most succesful era and that's aa matter of opinion. As for the tributes and magazines. My personal opinion is that they're out to make money because a lot of them never gave Prince a thought while he was alive. I've seen prince's likeness on everything from sneakers to fake million dollor bills. He would have hated this crap, but it's only temporary.

THIS is what vexes me so much. It pisses me off how so many people (fans included) just dismiss the 90s as shite. I really think so many don't give a ish because a lot of the 90s stuff is more R&B. It's not like he retired at any point yet the majority of tributes don't show him how he was in the end with the afro. One tribute mag I got stopped at 20Ten! It really pisses me off that the whole body of work is not considered.

I dismiss the Elf period with the weird hairdo/sideburns and where the makeup he caked on made him look whiter than me. lol

I was obsessed with P in the 80s. I kind of fell out of love with him early to mid 90s and got into other music. I felt he was starting to copy musical trends rather than innovate them. Don't shoot me it's just my honest opinion lol. I got back into listening to him a few months ago and had some catching up to do! I particularly love musicology and 3121 and think its such a shame his music wasn't more mainstream, but I guess that was his own doing. sad

It's when he became a mega star. It's what most will remember him for. But anyone who bothered to scratch beneath the surface knows he was SO MUCH MORE than that exclaim

I think that is a decent way to put it re the 90s instead of just dissing as I've heard normally. I see your point & agree to some extent but still love the 90s. C&D for example was around brit pop & all that so happy memories for me. My most vivid early Prince memories are D&P so it's special to me. Vague memories of SOTT, LoveSexy & Batman so I appreciated him in the 90s.

As for your last sentence I think it's like Mariah said- he could've made hits but he did what he wanted.

Just about every artist is associated with his/her peak period. The Beatles, 60's, Bruce S., 80's, Madonna, 80's, even Michael, I think 80's. Those were the eras that made them into who they are. Nothing at all wrong with it, imo.
