Envisioning Paisley Park's Future: Prince Rogers Nelson Conservatory of Music

All this speculation about Paisley Park's future has got me wondering - why can't the University of Minnesota acquire Paisley and turn it into the Juillard of the Midwest? The University of Minnesota has acknowledged Prince's enormous contributions to his homestate. Prince also talked about how much he enjoyed teaching and mentoring young musicians. What better way to perserve his musical legacy then to have Paisley become a magnet for musically gifted and talented students? This way, Paisley Park would continue to be a living, breathing entity for creative output and would ensure that Prince's music would continued to be studied generations to come. Does anyone else agree?

I think that's a great idea...as long as Paisley Park would somehow be a museum. I mean, I'd like to see the decor remain the same and all the memorabilia remain intact. That circle building that was to be a food bank or whatever Prince envisioned has plenty of unused space for classrooms and such. It could be called the Prince Rogers Nelson Paisley Park Conservatory of Music, or something similar. I'd also like to see the studios be used to teach underprivileged children the recording business. By golly, I think you're onto something!!!! flower thumbs up! excited

This is a perfect idea! In addition, the PRN Conservatory could also have some sort of annual International Music or Arts Festival. FlyOnTheWall's idea about serving underprivileged kids is awesome too. I'm gonna need for somebody to get those PRN Conservatory t shirts, totebags, and travel mugs ready. I mean, like within the next couple of weeks. I'm a teacher, and we're junkies for that stuff... lol

I like that, perfume!! They could also have an artist-in-residence program. During the summer, they could even have residential summer arts camps. They have enough space to house a good number of children for such activities. Also, right after his passing, there was some talk about the City of Minnesota purchasing PP and running it as a museum. Perhaps they and the U of M could operate it jointly. If this were to happen, I don't think we would have to be constantly worried about the fate of PP being tied to the estate's solvency.

--- This is a good idea and maybe the family can reach out to the University to help they are giving him an honorary degree for music.

LBrent

Now this really is a good idea.

Plus, it preserves so many things in one bundle; the buildings, the belongings and memorabilia, the studios, P's sense of charitable community (both local and global), P's love of music...

If this idea gets wings, his legacy is assured to reach an entirely new level.

Ahhh, an Artist-In-Residence program, FlyonTheWall... that' perfect! What about some sort of sister school exchange with Berklee? They could have visiting profs from Juilliard, Peabody.. I

think we'll also need some sort of Prodigy Internship for youngsters who displays exceptional musical aptitude, similar to Prince.

So...who is gonna pay all of us for setting up this exceptional program folks? lol I mean, this is think tank stuff, y'all! We're gonna need Tyka to put us all on the board of directors. cool I'm off in the summer, I can come out there to work! lol

We can't forget the annual songwriting/music competition as a part of the Annual Festival. There has to be some ode to P.'s skills in composition, showmanship, as well as the various individual instruments: guitar/piano/bass/percussion, not forgetting vocal ability.

Here we are acting like somebody actually cares about what we think...

I'm down for it, too, perfume!! And you never know who is reading the Org!!! I really think this would be the perfect long-term solution for Paisley Park. I like the Prodigy Internship idea. And the exchange program with Berklee, Julliard, Peabody and other Conservatories is a stroke of genius. It could really become a world-class conservatory!!

yeahthat Perhaps they care more than we know, perfume. As I said, LOTS of folks read the Org. I wouldn't be surprised if Tyka, Londell, Bremer executives, etc. closely monitor these boards. Maybe not personally, per se, but I'll bet they get reports. Let's hope this thread catches someone's attention.

Can you link us to the source(s) where he specifically stated his wish to turn Paisley into a music school for children? If he said it on many occasions, the family must have some awareness of this wish.

I'm glad I put this out into the ether because my gut feelings tell me the powers that be in Prince's circle do read these boards. It's mind over matter - if we keep directing positive thoughts towards this idea, we can inspire the decision makers to move in the right direction regarding Paisley Park's future.

You know what, it should be a world-class conservatory! This man was a Da Vinci level genius, and not to conserve the energy of that genius would be all flavors of ungodly. What about a music therapy extension program for kids with disabilities and emotional concerns? Also, college level musicians working with the conservatory could go out into the public schools and do PRN Master classes and demos with school band programs.

Prince was a spiritually anointed master teacher, whether he knew it or not. He enriched our minds, and spirits, and the best way to honor his memory is to forever enrich and empower others in his name.

I do hope someone sees this...

Beyond, thanks for posting this. Prince left a lot here, and a Conservatory would allow him to keep giving, and for the world to never forget the artistic treasure that he was. Hopefully TPTB will take this into consideration. <3

Thanks for your wonderful, forward-thinking idea!!!! I think Prince would love the thought of PP becoming a conservatory/museum. Let's hope TPTB will read this thread and seriously consider this idea.
