Of course it's nonsense. Want to make it into a national landmark? Nominate it. But first read https://www.nps.gov/nhl/apply/intro.htm and notice how it really has no chance. Unless you believe that Obama will wave a magic wand and "make it so".

.

Graceland was designated a "National Register of Historic Places and National Historic Landmark" in 2006.

So there wink

.

.

So 30 years after Elvis's death, and 25 years after it became open to the public.

I would think if this petition was brought to the municipal government's attention, there would be major support from Minneapolis / Chanhassen to make Paisley Park a heritage site.

So is there a synopsis before one clicks the link on what this is all about?

There was a paragraph on the middle-left that explained the petition when I viewed it.

I can't remember, but there was a second opportunity to void request AND an email requesting signature to verify. So, I think you're okay with clicking on it cuz there's more than one step before a final 'yes'. Hope this helps. I felt comfortable and did not get any other emails after I verified.

I would still like to see it used for what it was originally intended : a working studio and production facility, as well as a live performance venue. I would feel better knowing music is still being created and produced at Paisley Park and I think Prince would too. I don't care if part of it is used as a museum. That would be cool. But it would be heartbreaking if no new musical/video creations ever came out of Paisley Park. [Edited 8/3/16 7:26am] [Edited 8/3/16 7:27am]

yeahthat Exactly! they should only turn maybe a portion of it into a museum and the rest could be used as you stated in your post. Also we know that Prince did a lot of charity for schools in their music and dance programs so couldn't the studio and live performance areas also be used as real hands on experience to help develop and encourage those talents in the younger generations thereby ensuring the Minnesota Sound always has it's home?

Rumor has it Prince wanted Paisley turned into a music school for kids.

As usual, turniphead speaks of things he does not know.

There is a fair case to be made for historic designation, but that would likely require the estate's approval.

Everyone needs to understand, however, that historic designation does not determine the building's use. It can function as a museum without being designated a historic landmark; likewise, it could be designated a landmark without functioning as a museum.

If they demolish the Park to make room for the transgalactic highway that is planned there, I will not care.

They just need to save the recordings before commencing with the demolishing.

The situation is hairy enough, heck, even the decendants are still not sorted out. How can this be in a civilized society like the former USA? Why does it take so long? Isn't all of this stuff in computers by now? (it's the 21st century...)

I'm so disappointed in these so called fans right now. There should be many more signatures. Check out the thread on paying the property tax left owed on PP

Prince was never quick with paying bills.

There is plenty of whatever you call it in english, collateral, proeprty, whatever to pay for the taxes.

The estate lawyers are gobbling up cash too.

The heirs, once the list definitive, need to get together and find a single investor - record company that can deal with the music, etc.

Then a deal must be struck to pay the taxes.

The profits of the deal go to the company and the heirs.

This way the heirs do not have to fear for the tax payment but will only receive money when the company sells product.

In a tv news segment yesterday, titled "Prince's Family Opens Up About Life After His Death" on the wncn.com (charlotte, nc tv websie), Prince's cousin says the family would like to keep Paisley Park as a recording studio so that family members can record there. Personally, I would like to see it become a museum. I would go to Minnesota to see it. I think Prince would be proud to see it as a museum for his fans to enjoy.

It's not nonsense. The application has been filed. The National Park Service is under the Department of the Interior. The Secretary of the Department of the Interior is in President Obama's cabinet. So no magic wand is required, since the Secretary reports to Obama and he can instruct him as what to do. The second petition on Change details the manner in which Paisley Park meets the specific criteria for becoming a landmark.https://www.change.org/p/barack-obama-designate-prince-rogers-nelson-s-paisley-park-as-a-national-historic-landmark

No magic wand required. There are procedures in place. It has been nominated. Now just waiting for estate special administrator Bremer to all Minnesota Historical Society access - which of course is being ignored by Bremer. Instead of being critical - show support and sign the petition. It is NOT nonsense at all.
