OMG! That reply Prince gave to Martha Quinn was the SAME OLD LAME JOKE I used to roll my eyes at, when my Dad said the same thing. Dad said it was an "old Iowa joke"...which is very close to Minnesota. smile smile smile

Of course, Prince wasn't on MTV 31 years ago.

It wasn't until 1999 became a big hit that MTV picked up that video by a "black artist".

Maybe we're all in luck. MTV Classic debuted today (replacing VH1 Classic). It supposedly will feature more videos and only the early non-video content.

I loved MTV back in the day. Unplugged was phenomenal. I remember watching shows like Headbanger's Ball and 120 Minutes. I stopped watching once they moved to reality tv 24/7.
