Not buying it. The gloves and the way he holds that cane by the ball on top... Ain't nothing wrong with his hands at least as far as carpal tunnel, and repetitive strain issues go. I've got those issues and the last thing you would want to do is wear gloves. Also the ace bandge theory doesn't make sense in that it doesn't support the wrist in a way you'd want with carpal tunnel. Maybe that's where he hid his opiate patches, though? IDK.

.

There are wrist braces almost exactly that size; wearing that cuff is a perfect disguise.

Your IDK is disgusting.

.

Pssh... He was wearing them somewhere, some say perhaps as long as a decade or more. The wrist would be easy access.

Again for carpal tunnel, what good would a brace do that does not stabalize the palm and wrist? I googled around a bit and if he was wearing a brace for carpal tunnel, the one he has in these photos is nothing like the most common examples, which leads me to think, it's just another example of Prince self-treating or at least using off-beat medical practices for a serious condition.

---- I think so as well I bet he had those stupid copper bands around his wrist that you see on late night T.V. The whole I am withdrawing off of pain meds on an out patient basis his Prince doing something against traditional medience.

Check out the Futuro Wrap Around Wrist Support sold it Wal-Greens. It looks like what is peeking out from under his wrist cuffs in some of those pictures.

There are several performances where he's jamming the guitar and he's had to quickly stretch it out and then return to playing. I think he did it on the 2009 French TV performance.

The dude was 57 when he passed. It doesn't surprise me that he may have had issues. Hell, I'm 43 and I have aches and pains.

Like getting writers cramps, but he was getting players cramps. I play violin and I've suffered from tendonitis on occasion where I have to wear a brace.

Now everything is going to relate back to drugs for some people. I suppose if a pic of him at 10 with a band aid on his toe pops up they will wonder if that's where he stuck the needle to "hide it".

From what I've read, no one has said definitively that he had carpal tunnel. It could just be strain on his wrist, arthritis, just needing that extra support after all the years of performing. So, yes, it could be used for literally anything in which he needed some support on his wrists for whatever reason.

This whole thread is dumb.

The only reason Prince had those canes was fashion. He carried them, twirled them, I don't think he ever leaned on them. He'd been carrying them since 1988.

The cheap ass "bandages" would provide little if any support for any serious injury to his wrist, and no support to his hand or fingers. I'm 99% sure they were only there to stop his fancy cuffs from sliding down his arm.

I could be wrong, but I've yet to see a picture of him wearing a bandage without his fancy cuffs.

I have no idea where the idea of him using patches came from... or why he'd place them on his wrist where they could be seen rather than on his upper arm or shoulder where they wouldn't be seen... so I'd say that's bullshit too.

He did sometimes wear them with sleeveless shirts but that could have been just a fashion thing.

^ Point taken, but his shoulders are still covered. So if he was wearing patches (which I don't think has actually been confirmed) He could have placed them there.

Agree with both. There are vids on youtube not only the Grand Canal Dance for me video (referred to by another org-er ) on French TV where he is flexing his fingers in the middle of playing the song but also on either the NSJ or Montreux..after tuning the guitar ...same hand in both...so he was starting to show some kind of repetitive motion stress. As many hours and as long as he played...come on people, get real. It wasnt a 9-5 occupation for him. He was starting to show and accept his age...no heels, less dancing, etc. If we are lucky, it happens to all of us.

Look at that fancy cuff. There's an Ace bandage or wrist brace underneath it.

Hello to all, I'm happy to be part of this site and appreciate all the discussion and insights. I was interested to see this comment about Prince taking pills on stage because I did notice him taking something during his set at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. I wonder if others have noticed the same. Thanks!
