WTF? Anyone know anything? It feels like "Fuck it, the stadium concert is never going to happen, so we did our own."

Now I have no idea what to do. Cleveland is closer but it ain't Minnie.

Yeh confused . It's got me feelin' some kinda way right now....It may be just me, but I feel like we've been soooooo disrespected. I'm sorry, but I had to speak my heart. I'm ready for us to just start runnin' our own tributes and fan events. (ok, end rant, it's still too soon to get this pissed).

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Two artists whose careers are inexorably linked to the late Prince Rogers Nelson will help celebrate the late singer-songwriter's life with "Purple Rain: A Tribute to Prince'' at the I-X Center this fall.

Morris Day of Morris Day and the Time and Sheila E. star in the show that pays homage to Prince, who was found dead in his Minneapolis complex this past April at the age of 57. They will perform music from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's career at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

"I still, and always will, provide the rhythm of his music and memory, whether through my music, drums, words or the beating of my heart,'' said Sheila E., whose real name is Sheila Escovedo, in a release announcing the show. "He grew into a conqueror of rules and a provider of dreams for millions.''

Prince's death on April 21, 2016, was ruled an accidental drug overdose. A lifetime of his frenetic performances in high-heeled boots and shoes had left the star in near-constant pain, and with an addiction to prescription painkillers.

Prince apparently was aware of the dangers he faced because the man who found is body, Andrew Kornfield, is the son of Dr. Howard Kornfield, who runs a respected addiction treatment center in California and had been dispatched to Minnesota by his father to see the singer.

Tickets, $30 to $70, plus fees, are on sale now at the box office, Discount Drug Marts and online at ixcenter.com/purplerain.

HUH? I don't get it. Now we have dueling tributes? (Supposed) Do you think they said there was going to be a tribute concert - just so they could get everyone to PP at the same time ( but there really was never going to be a tribute)? I know, negative Nelly, but.......... hmm

[Edited 9/9/16 11:07am]

I bet the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is going to do something in conjunction with this.

I would like to add the I-X center only holds 7,000 people. Not 50,000 plus like they are trying to do in Minneapolis. Grant it more will come to Minneapolis than Cleveland but just letting you all know 7,000 seats. So if you evening thinking about going I would get tickets ASAP

I kind of feel it the same way, one big snub! Specifically on the SAME weekend they know people will be in MPLS? It's totally fine and great for them to have their own tribute, but on that same weekend, verrryyyy strange. pout disbelief

Oh, THAT'S why people were so upset about the Cleveland concert on the other thread! Duh! I didn't see the date... I couldn't understand why people were upset at Sheila and Morris. One orger stated that she heard from people who contacted the Stadium where the memorial concert is to be held in Minneapolis that Stadium representatives stated that there is no memorial event scheduled for that weekend. There seems to be some question as to whether this even is going to take place... If so, what a mess... There's seems to be something funny going on behind the scenes... hmmm

I too am becoming increasingly skeptical that this concert is going to happen. I had noticed before (when I pulled up their events schedule online) that the stadium did not have this event on their schedule. It sure would be nice in that case if the estate or whoever would come clean and tell us that so we can make other plans.

It's certainly looking more and more that way. Even if they announce the show today, it would be nearly impossible to fill a stadium with such short notice... confused

Am I the only person who feels totally manipulated by Londell McMillan and the estate? I can't blame Tyka, she's not a business woman. I'm finding it more suspicious that the concert was announced so loudly late July. Then Paisley Park suddenly becomes a museum-opening the month of the tribute concert-strategically giving them approx. 2 weeks to run through things before the fam. arrives on the 13th. But wait, Paisley tickets go onsale first-before any concert info. is released-and they are non-refundable. Anticipation of a perfect Purple weekend gets the fam base excited and tickets sell quickly. It's critical that Paisley sales do well when they first open-and with the Minn. winters, there will be little traffic again until late Spring. Why didn't they just wait until then? Would've given them more time to hire, train, accumulate significant items and be ready to go-and for more fans to get in the emotional place where they would want to go. But no, it was timed to coincide with the concert, which appears not to even be happening. Was this all a play to get Paisley sales high the first quarter to prove it could sustain? The US Bank Stadium was never booked-still isn't. Neither is the Target Center. Every media outlet in Minne I have contacted says they know nothing and the only contact info. they have is Londell's North Star Group, who has stopped sending out press releases. The family and Londell have clearly been enjoying their time "tributing" at First Avenue with The Revolution, Questlove and a host of other important people in our Prince's life. They've had their chance to grieve together and celebrate him. We've had nothing, been left out in the cold. Now they don't even have the courtsey to issue a statement. Even if its to cancel the show that was really never scheduled to start with. Of course they have my non-refundable Paisley ticket $. I would have gladly donated to keep it going, at least for a while. They didn't have to play me to get my money. I would have done it for P. any day.

Frankly, isn't this hit and miss style basically like what Prince did for the last years? They should have waited for a Concert for George-style show next year. Prince deserves better than this.

Sadly it is starting to look like this to me too. It did seem suspicious that they could get sales for PP up and running in a blink and still not have any word about the tribute concert that was so BLATANTLY announced - you don't say things like Oct 13th, it's happening BOOK YOUR TRAVEL NOW?! And not have it actually be happening. An official statement in whichever manner is LONG overdue. The KNOW this will inadvertantly tarnish Prince's name and the legacy with regards to PP if this goes sideways, which it seems to be looking like more and more.

But why did people like 3rd eye girl and the Time tweet/post things like U.S. Bank - OCT - we'll be there?!

I just don't get it. It's super disheartening pout disbelief neutral

OK Can't believe no one has asked this and I'll post on the other discussion also but Cleveland Ohio for the Purple Rain Tribute Concert Why? I could understand Detroit, New York, Chicago but Cleveland. There has to maybe something going on with rock n roll hall of fame?

As far as the 13th. I would be really really upset if I have airfare book and PP tickets and then they say sorry no concert. Not that I wouldn't have a good time anyway but maybe I could of planned it at a different time. Other then the movies I don't see much else going on Prince related that weekend. Nothing at first Ave.

Maybe everyone is so silent about it because it's all up to some underwriter now and everyone actually knows nothing. Maybe at first a big tribute looked like a win-win -- satisfying fans and helping pay some bills, but then it turned out to look more financially risky. I wish they could say something like "check this twitter account once a week on Mondays for updates" -- it would be better luck for everyone to stop wasting peoples' time every day. Maybe its an embarrassing reason. Maybe its a really fun surprise secret reason. maybe. I wish they had a pr person.

If they dont have performers for a tribute, they should at least book the stadium for us to use for free for all of us to come otgether at one place and one time because there is nowhere else big enough where we can all meet. So book the stadium, Play Prince Videos, music on the boards and let us in for free for stringing us along. OK you can sell food. But thats it. Eat the cost of renting US Bank Stadium and let us all be able to conviene at one spot for all of us to be together.

At this point I am not sure paisley park tours will open in 3 weeks. They have just now started to interview for position at pp. I hire all the time, you have to do background checks, drug tests, train. Can this be done in 3 weeks. Londel is ending out tweets about iPhone 7 and being at fashion week.

it seems like a tribute concert in Minneapolis on October 13 in maybe a 5k-10k seat venue would easily sell out at this point and be profitable and respectful to Prince and the purple army, but I understand if everyone who has been working on the stadium tribute is fed up with it all if it fell through. but even with the pp tours available, a total lack of mpls tribute on that date would make every1 involved look bad. maybe every1s afraid to say anything for legal reasons. my respect for the time grows -- seems like they are friends on all sides.

Oh no, I don't mind. I love your idea. I don't need a big, red carpet, Grammy studded event-and I don't think Prince's fams do either. We all know anyone else performing his music will make us cringe a little-no matter how good they are. It's just not him. I would pay admission for a party for the Purple fam to get together with his music, videos on a giant screen and his spirit all around us. I don't need another thing (although I would love to hear that special Prince playlist of unreleased songs in Questlove's possession). That's the beautiful thing about Prince, he didn't need awards and top 40 popularity. He created real music, for us real music lovers and every note was magical.

You raise an excellent question. I would assume they would run a background check, probably state and federal as well as a credit report since the staff will be around items of significant monetary value. And I have to think this is seasonal employment. I just can't imagine enough tourists in January-early March to keep it fully staffed. Oh Londell, ever the mover and shaker rolleyes

Yes we need to make something happen for sure!!!!

I agree with you Jay. So who can we reach out to to do something on our own? I would be happy with the Estate releasing some great concert footage from the vault and making a Prince concert from the best of his concerts through the years. To have a last GREAT concert for his fans and see 'The Kid' in action one last time would be a fitting tribute. They have the venue...Paisley Park if they just need a small venue to host those who have already planned and paid for this trip out in MN. They don't need to get some big headliner IMHO. They have the best and the original Prince from the vault. I don't know about the rest of you but I am easily over $1500 for this trip so far and most of it is nonrefundable. Who can we contact to see if we can get an Private After Dark party for the fans going? fro music headbang thumbs up! excited Oh yeah, we need to have pancakes served at the end of the party, too. smile Party in Prince Style... but only for the funky people. LOL.

I should have asked for permission first. Again, I'm sorry, please forgive me, if I could undo it I would.

Oh, hey....he/she has already posted and said they were fine with you quoting them. They said that when I was writing my post and I saw it afterwards. comfort Lots of people don't know that so don't think you're alone smile It's good info to know though.

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

Good information to know. No worries about him reading my posts. I wish he would contact me. I'd be glad to lend him a hand-free of charge-to get this off and running and to keep Prince's legacy about his musical genius.

A little assistance at this point certainly couldn't hurt...

What's the matter with it being in Cleveland?I'm sure this won't be the only city they do a tribute concert in.Cleveland fans deserve to celebrate Prince just like everyone else.Anyway I'm glad they are coming to Cleveland 'caues this is where I live and I hope They have the tribute concert at target field so I can go and fly back to Cleveland the next day and see Sheila and Morris.I already have tickets to the movie double feature but if they don't have the concert in minneapolis I wont' be going and I was looking forward to seeing other Prince fans from here but I guess I will have to settle for Sheila's tribute.BTW this picture is from the Rock N Roll hall of fame Prince tribute party on his birthday. cool

2 nice things about the mysteriousness of all this -- 1. it feels like they're channeling prince's wow factor or 2. the silence indicates that they're still hopeful that a tribute will materialize.

LOL.

When I think of Prince I don't think of Cleveland that's all. However they have another date in Memphis wouldn't shock me if they added a few more also.
