Prince SiriusXM Channel

Sadly, there is still no SiriusXM Channel for Prince (and channel 106 is still empty). I'm happy that they are playing more Prince on several of their channels (like The Groove), but it's not the same.

Now, they just announced Garth Brooks is getting his own channel: http://blog.siriusxm.com/2016/07/07/the-garth-channel-presented-by-garth-brooks-launches-on-siriusxm/

I think it still makes sense to keep writing, emailing, tweeting, messaging SiriusXM to get Prince his own channel - finally!

There are several petitions on Change.org to request the Prince channel. Also, sending emails, letters, tweets, etc., are also helpful.

Here are a couple of org posts on how to help:

i was actually thinking of cancelling my sirius . not just because of this ... but

there are channels for people like tom petty and .... why not prince ...

plus Howard is on vacation all the time now ... so .... why spend the 15.00 a month?

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

So true about Howard... and lately when he's not on vacation the show has been sucking really, really bad.

Garth Brooks is running his channel himself. Frank Sinatra's family runs Siriusly Sinatra. I suspect the other artist-dedicated channels operate that way, too.

Who would approve the creation of a Prince channel? Who would program and operate it? Because that would have to happen.

Petitions on change.org? Yeah - that'll work. falloff

I canceled our SiriusXM subscription when they stopped the Prince Tribute Channel in May. They told me it was always meant to be temporary and I assumed they had problems getting the rights to play some of the music. Anyway, if they reinstate it, I'll resubscribe and I told them that but I'm sure they don't care.

I really enjoyed the Sirus Channel but now with so much available I do not miss it that much.

The Prince Channel di work however. Whoever programmed it did a good job with playing the hits as well as deep cuts. I esp enjoyed the Madhouse.

Yeah, at first they were playing too many of the same tracks, from like the same 5-6 albums all starting with Prince to Lovesexy. They must've gotten clearance because they did start playing the deeper tracks, but some latter years albums never received attention or airplay (The Rainbow Children, Come, 3121, Emancipation, Crystal Ball are just a few that come to mind).

I heard Space and Dark from Come as well as cuts from some of those other albums, It did seem that the tracks got deeper as the station stayed around longer. They also played some live cuts that were previously only available to NPG members.

i heard Goodbye from Crystal Ball which blew my mind...

i could do without so many associated artist tracks.. if I heard COOL on there one more time.. i was gonna lose it...

but yeah.. it needs to be done right... lots of deep tracks and live tracks to balance the hits..

and i mean can you imagine something like peach and black podcast etc on there?

it could be really great...

I didn't hear those tracks you reference Bookwomen, perhaps they were played in rotation while I was in my office Cube smile Still no music from TRC - one of my favs - made it into the playlist, nor from AOA (Time), Hit n Run & 2.

And they did play Wonderful Ass which was surprising. lol

I work into the wee hours of the morning so I mostly listened then while working so I may have heard some of the more obscure tracks.

I used to feel that way, too... But then I realized I was paying for a bunch of reruns since it seems like Howard is on vacation for about 26 weeks a year.

When he is actually live for his big three-day-a-week schedule, he seems to be phoning it in more and more.

It's actually gotten to the point where I enjoy the wrap-up show more than the actual show.

Just saw a tweet from @sxm_help saying that at this time, there are no plans for a permanent Prince channel. sad sad

This is really ridiculous. With all the other people having their own channels, Prince seems to be no-brainer. Plus, as others have noted, whoever was curating the Prince channel at Sirius picked some really cool tunes and b-sides/rarities. This is something I think we need to keep pestering them about!

Garth Brooks, yachtrock, but no Prince??

I hear ya...I still enjoy Howard, but it's not the same. Plus, it seems he is always on vacation. Good for him for negotiating that schedule, but still! I have considered cancelling my subscription, but I'm still hopeful that Prince gets a channel. Although I have my own CDs, having his own channel really would be a tribute to his genius and legacy.

My biggest fear would be an all Prince channel only playing the Purple Rain soundtrack 24/7 and thinking that was sufficient programming.

No thanx.

I already have a "Purple iPod" that I'm loading up to have my collection ready for the house, car, trips, etc.

My own private Prince radio station. Like the time he and the band took over VH1 except Mayte can't accidentally kick out the power cord. Lol

why would you fear that, they had a prince channel for about a month following his death and it was nothing like that. They did a fantastic job with it.

Because, although the PR era was nice, it's not the last word on P. After 4/21/16 that's the only thing I heard anyone play. I get it and I realize that was their way of paying their respects, but after several hundred times...Ugh...Lol
