Prince locked himself in bedroom after hearing about MJ's passing

Insightful interview with Tavis Smiley and Sway. Not sure if it's been posted. Cheers.

This is going to get locked even before I finish writing this message. There is a completely irrational rule here that says that everything related to Michael Jackson must be discussed in one thread and one thread only, regardless of whether it is a remark about his nose or about his relationship with Prince.
One of the biggest artist in history (even if he wasn't my cup of tea) relegated to one thread in a forum that most people ignore.

Nothing irrational about it, nonsense threads like this need to be locked.

I'm not going to watch the interview, so it might be nonsense. But if it indeed tells about the reaction Prince had after Jackson's passing, why is it a nonsense thread? I remember how often he was criticised for not making a statement at the time, or publicly mourn Jackon. A lot of people said that Prince was selfish and didn't care and so on. So why is it nonsense to find out that he was actually human and private (go figure)?

That's moving to know how much Prince was affected by MJ's passing. So sad that here we are seven years later... Prince was such a private person; he would have hated his personal life being smeared in the press. As Tavis states, "A person shouldn't be judged by some of the parts of his life but rather by the sum of his life."

this is an issue I have with any site like this...what makes this topic nonsense? Your opinion? Genuinely curious as to what drives someone to call something nonsense. I personally find it interesting that we are finding things like this out that make Prince more...human than any of us could see.

I don't find this thread nonsense at all. It seems so tattle-tale- y when people say "lock this nonsense" when there's nothing about it that is wrong. It's nice to know that Prince cared about MJ. I always assumed he didn't care much about him. Nice to find I was wrong.

Nothing about Prince is nonsense. Especially concerning MJ. This is a free country free forum and the topic is not disrespectful. I knew his death affected him just like us all. I still cannot believe two of our musical Icons are gone!

Exactly. I figured that Mike's passing would affect him but I had no clue how deeply.

And for him to spend an entire evening with Tavis talking about nothing but Mike and his gift is stunning. eek

Good interview.

I wonder if he felt fated when MJ passed?

Or Vanity for that matter?

Very good point. After watching this (and Tavis' story is obviously completely true), I realized why I have been so affected by Prince's passing.

Of course I miss this person. I love the person I am realizing he was. But I think all the deep sobbing sessions have been about me too. I'm feeling my own mortality. I think I'm afraid I'm going to die. Actually, I know one been afraid of that.

The biggest fear is to die alone. And that's what we think happened to Prince, even though he was obviously surrounded by people who cared about him. We heard he was alone that one night just like many of us are at night, and we associate it with "dying alone" and our own fears come up.

This is why I keep asking if P had somebody (a lady) he really loved before he passed. I am hoping he had love. But then I know he has the greatest love of all...his love for God.

This reminds me of something else...the recent interview with his protege (I forget her name) who said that at the hospital in Moline Prince told her he was only still here by God's grace anyway.

Maybe like me and many of us, he knew each day was a gift. Hey. Wait. Didn't he say that too? Didn't Sheila E just say the other day that that's how he would want her to live?

Now I'm sad again. I haven't ever lived near the life these people did.

Well? I guess we all have THIS ONE DAY.

Use it well.
love

PS. I think what prince did all those days locked in his room was start watching MJ and then keep watching MJ, studying his music, dancing, appreciating...Much more closely than ever. Kind of like we're doing with Prince now.

He saw that we ha lost a genius.

Yes, I very much liked this line, and will be appropriating it, and passing it off as my own going forward!

Prince was a human being...and whilst being unique...was not infallible to life

The fact that his life was intrinsically linked to MJ for a very important part of his life - was always going to mean he would have intense unresolved feelings if they never made peace.

Growing up - Prince knew MJ...MJ didn't know Prince

So Prince had a life-long relationship with MJ...from afar and then personally and then as contemporaries....alot of shit to carry for most of your life - particularly when their relationship was as complicated as it was.

Well they are probably now doing a rehearsal in the sky with the greatest band ever! - Prince, MJ, Bowie, Freddie, JB, Elvis, Jimi, John Lennon, Zappa, John Bonham, Jim Morrison and so it goes...
