I actually think Prince was afraid of death and the reason he agreed to write his memoirs was because he realized, as we all do, that time was quickly passing and, like it or not, his was going to run out.

I'm sure many disagree and of course I could be wrong. I just feel like this is true.

As someone with the irrational fears of aging and dying I can say this happens! I have been lying about my age since I turned 30. I hated turning 30, and I almost killed my brother for helping to throw me a surprise bday party when I turned 40. My husband and my children aren't even entirely sure of my age and honestly neither am i. I push it out of my mind. The only time I'm jolted back to reality is once a year when I go to the doctor cuz I haven't been able to lie to her! People usually assume I'm about 15 yrs younger than I am. And i feel and act at least 20 years younger than i am. I despise the idea of getting old and sick and dying. I can't bear the thought of having to leave my children and future grandchildren some day. They are my life. They are joy. I'm sure Prince got a similar joy out of his creativity, musical genius, and the devotion from legions of fans and peers. I don't blame him for never wanting to grow old and die.
I'm also sure its a sign I need intense psychotherapy LOL

It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Prince would never have retired from making music. Not ever. That's what he lived and breathed.

Yeah but probably from the spotlight so to speak.

Never music but definitely the spotlight.

I somewhat agree. I think he knew he needed out. He respected sly stone leaving the music world. Like Quest love said on billboard awards. I think he planned to get out at some point. Health broke media persecution with age ( Bill Cosby ) and other factors we may never know speeded the process to b4 the age of 60. The full circle moons and references to his father and emotion leaving the stage was like he knew that was his last show in Atlanta. Anne Christian song references Atlanta. And that song strongly signifies what is going on right now with killing hatred and guns. Sad. Isn't it.? It's very hard to be here without my rock! Both my rocks r gone. I think he got out in time. For Mj it was too late.

i was looking up the track lengths of prince songs and the only ones that are 4:21 long are annie christian and muse 2 the pharaoh.

  • there is a video interview asking about celebrating his birthday and he says "i'll celebrate the day i die", obviously meaning it in a very spiritual upbeat way.
  • his lyrics seem to come from someone who believes that death has been overcome and this world is just one phase of life, in an amazingly funky way that lacks morbidity. His passing has made me more accepting of the idea of passing. i recently went to a lecture where the speaker quoted a 110-year old woman being asked how it felt to live so long... her reply: "well, it all went by so fast!" i think prince has it right in living this moment to the fullest instead of counting years wink
