Like a bolt out of the blue (or a dagger to my heart)

What things that have nothing to do with Prince make you think of him?

I read somewhere recently that Prince cited film director Billy Wilder as an inspiration because he wrote and directed his own films. All this month on Turner Classic Movies, the Friday Night Spotlight is the films of Billy Wilder. AND...tomorrow night's first film is...wait for it...

Witness For the Prosecution

If he were here, we'd've probably been watching it together - he in Minneapolis and me where I live. How can a thought be devastating and comforting at the same time?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Thank you for this. I haven't seen Witness or Fortune Cookie, so I've DVR'd them both.

HIGHLY recommend "Some Like It Hot", "The Apartment" and the best of the bunch -- "Ninotchka." A freaking masterpiece.

You haven't seen Witness?! eek Oh, you are in for a treat. Stellar cast, an amazing screenplay, and a killer plot twist at the end. Do NOT read anything about the film before you watch it - just let it unfold.

Ninotchka... touched (Although Wilder didn't direct that one - he was "just a writer" at that point. Ernst Lubitsch didn't do a bad job with it, though. wink )

Ah, I'm embarrassed to forget about Lubitsch directing that. D'oh!

I work in the medical software field, and directly with lots of organizations that sell the opioids that are in the news. So, unfortunately, I see a reference to Narcan and fentanyl on a daily basis. Because if this I haven't really listened to any Prince music outside of Exodus because anything else would just be depressing to listen to given that on a daily basis work makes me think of the plane incident and that damned patch...

Oh, man - that must be awful. Constant reminder.

A lot of things.

One of the first movies I watched since his passing was "Into The Wild" by Sean Penn, the ending shatter my heart into a million pieces. The whole needing to be alone concept until it was too late.

I saw a rainbow yesterday - and thought of him - the purple was especially prominent....

I now live in a country other than the USA - so I was getting my new drivers license - the guy sitting next to me was playing purple rain in his headphones - i catch his eye, and show him my symbol keychain - he nods and crosses himself and i teared up rt there.

Drove by a vegan/vegetarian resturant called The Purple Mint. Made me sad.

I saw an article about a CEO who wants to redesign stilettos to be ...omfortable right after he died and I thought, "Prince could have totally used that".

Hell, I want them even though the only time I wear them out is dancing at huge weddings and parties. I almost went and got professional salsa shoes because every single shoe sucks so much for what I want to do and I'm NOT jumping off speakers or doing splits.
